New BlackBerry device (probably Key2 LE) coming on August 30
- TCL, which owns the BlackBerry smartphone brand, just sent out event invites for an August 30 launch.
- The event will take place at Internationale Funkausstellung (IFA) in Berlin.
- It’s likely TCL will launch the BlackBerry Key2 LE, but it could also launch something we’re not expecting.
Last week, we saw some leaked photos and specs of what appears to be the BlackBerry Key2 LE — a more budget-friendly version of the BlackBerry Key2, released earlier this year.
Now we have word of a BlackBerry event happening at IFA in Berlin on August 30. Coincidence? Probably not.
As such, it’s very likely that TCL (the company that owns the BlackBerry smartphone brand) will launch the Key2 LE on August 30.
Just got a save the date from TCL (BlackBerry licensor). Is this the upcoming Key2 Lite? https://t.co/Q3l8kCCqf8 pic.twitter.com/nwr8sMGUKf— Matthew Hughes (@matthewhughes) August 13, 2018
As you can see from the invite, there’s pretty much no information on hand.
The BlackBerry Motion launched in October last year, so it’s possible a Motion 2 could be on hand for this IFA event. It’s also possible that TCL could announce that the BlackBerry Evolve is launching in other countries, specifically North America.
Or it could be simply the Key2 LE and that’s it.
We can be relatively sure that TCL/BlackBerry isn’t launching anything totally outrageous like a smartwatch, smart speaker, or tablet. But hopefully TCL has more up its sleeve than the launch of a budget version of a device it launched only a few months ago.
Whatever it has in store for us, we’ll find out in a few weeks.
