Not that long ago, USB Type-C was pretty uncommon. Now, essentially any mid-range or better phone has it, and a growing number of budget choices have even made the switch as well.

Needless to say, USB Type-C is here to stay. One of the biggest downsides to the new standard, however, is buying a ton of adapters to keep using your chargers, portable batteries, and other Micro USB accessories, or having to start over again from scratch. If you’ve already invested heavily into power packs and other accessories, going the former route might make the most sense. However, a portable battery charger designed for USB Type-C has its advantages. First, charging speed will be much faster with a USB Type-C connection. Second, less adapters and other cables to bring along with you.

Below we listed just a handful of what we feel are some of the best USB Type-C portable battery chargers. Our picks relied on brand recognition as well as positive ratings and reviews.

Aukey portable charger 30,000mAh

The Aukey portable charger comes with a massive 30,000mAh capacity, which should be more than enough to charge your smartphones and tablets multiple times. The device comes with two regular USB ports — one featuring Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 support — as well as a USB Type-C port. For those of you who may find it useful, there is also a flashlight. The USB Type-C port can also recharge the device itself, and couple with the Micro USB input to fully charge even faster. This Aukey power bank isn’t the most portable option out there, but it’s worth the compromise, given the huge capacity.

RAVPower battery pack 26,800mAh

The power bank comes with three USB ports, including a USB-C port with a 30W output to charge some laptops. Four LED indicators let you know how much charge is left on the power bank, and charging the device itself is quite fast when using the USB Type-C port for input.

A digital display shows you exactly how much charge is left on the power bank, and there are multiple protections in place to stop over-charging, over-voltage, over-current, and short circuit.

Eighty Plus power bank 10,000mAh

Looks shouldn’t be the most important criteria when picking a power bank, but the Eighty Plus USB Type-C battery portable charger is definitely one of the sleeker and more stylish options out there. Its 10,000mAh capacity means you can charge your smartphone multiple times, and the device comes with one Quick Charge 3.0 port and a USB Type-C port. Included in the box is a Micro USB cable and a USB Type-C cable.

Charmast 26,800mAh Battery Charger

USB-C Battery Packs - Charmast

If you would like a USB-C battery charger that’s both large in capacity and also thin, check out the Charmcast 26,800mAh battery pack. It’s only 14mm thick, and less than a pound in weight, but it can hold enough of a charge to handle multiple phones at once, or one phone several times. The external battery’s USB Type-C port also serves as its input source to charge up the large battery. In addition, the Charmast battery has three standard Micro USB output ports. The battery has a Micro USB input and even a Lightning input port if you want to charge your battery via other cords. Finally, there are four LED lights on the side to indicate how much charge is left in the battery.

The Charmast battery is available on Amazon for as low as $42.99, and it comes in a variety of color choices, including black, white, and even pink

ZeroLemon ToughJuice Battery Charger

The  ZeroLemon USB-C battery charger is supposed to be tough. This 30,000mAh battery has a hard shell case, and a softer layer under the shell to make it shock resistant. Also, all of the six ports on this battery can be covered with flaps when not in use. This should be perfect for taking your smartphone outdoors, and don’t want to worry about dropping it or letting dust get in.

As we said, the ZeroLemon ToughJuice Battery Charger has a total of six ports. Three of them are standard USB ports offering an output of 1 amp of charging speeds. A Quick Charge 2.0 port offers faster charging for compatible smartphones. The USB Type-C port can handle an output of 5V/2.5A, again for devices that already have a USB Type-C port. Finally, the battery has an input power port with a charging speed of 2 Amps. You will likely have to wait up to 13 hours to fully charge this battery if it gets down to zero, which admittedly is a long time.

This product is especially heavy at 1.5 pounds, so this is likely not going to be your everyday extra portable power source for your smartphone. However, it’s perfect for taking your phone, tablet, or even notebook out camping when you don’t have access to power outlets. Amazon currently sells the ZeroLemon ToughJuice Battery Charger for $136.07.

Mophie Powerstation USB-C XXL

Mophie is one of the most well known external battery makers for smartphones, and the company just recently announced its newest product: the Powerstation USB-C XXL. This big 19,500mAh USB Type-C battery includes a USB Type-C port for both input and output power. There’s also a high-output USB Type-A port so you can charge up your compatible smartphone or laptop at the same time.

The new Mophie external battery is wrapped in a durable fabric material, which the company says should keep the battery, along with anything else that might be near it in a bag, free from any accidental scratches. It’s not the lightest external battery you can buy (it’s 13.76 ounces), but it should be fine for most trips. If you put the battery in a wall charger overnight, and then connect it to a device, Mophie says the connected device will be charged up first before the Powerstation battery itself begins its own charging period.

This USB Type-C battery just launched. At the moment it’s only available on Mophie’s store site for $149.95, and in Apple’s retail stores. Hopefully it will find its way to Amazon and other retailers soon.

ChargeTech PLUG Portable Power Supply

If none of these USB Type-C  battery chargers have enough capacity for you, maybe you should check out the ChargeTech PLUG. If this device doesn’t satisfy your mobile power needs, nothing else will. This battery, which weighs in at two pounds and three ounces, has a 54,000mAh battery capacity, which should keep any phone you use charged up for days. The battery uses its own dedicated recharging port. When connected to an AC outlet, the battery should charge in about eight hours.

The ChargeTech PLUG includes a USB Type-C port, along with two standard USB Type-A ports, which means you should be able to charge up to three devices at once. If that wasn’t enough, the battery also has two full AC outlets. That means that in addition to charging your smartphone, laptop, or tablet, this device could even power a TV and game console at the same time, — you know, just in case you wanted to take your 4K television or Xbox One into the woods for some reason (not that we would actually do this, but it is possible with this battery).

Obviously, the ChargeTech PLUG is the kind of external battery people might need if they know they’ll be without power for an extended period of time. It’s definitely not for everyone, but if you really, really want to get a battery that will keep your USB Type-C phone charged for a long, long time, you can purchase the ChargeTech PLUG right now on Amazon. Be prepared to spend a lot for this big battery; it currently costs $369.

iWALK Secretary 10,000mAh battery charger

USB-C battery chargers - iWalk

Most USB Type-C battery chargers on this list aren’t exactly “compact.” However, the iWALK Secretary 10,000mAh portable battery charger easily fits in one hand. It only weighs seven ounces, yet the iWalk can charge up to three devices at once, with its USB Type-C port, its built-in USB Type-C cable, and its built-in  Micro USB cable (with its own Lighting adapter). The USB Type-C port can also be used to charge up the battery, along with its Micro USB input port.

The battery also supports Quick Charge 3.0, for faster charging times on compatible phones. It even comes with a slide-out tray designed to keep your phone standing up in landscape mode, so you can watch movies hands-free and charge the phone at the same time. It’s available on Amazon for $27.99 in black or white.
