After a busy Thanksgiving weekend for new streaming content, things are a bit slower this time around. However, we have still found some great picks for six of the best new movies and shows to stream this weekend.

The Power of the Dog (Netflix)

Netflix drops a new movie from Academy Award-winning director Jane Campion this weekend. Set in 1920s Montana, it stars Benedict Cumberbatch as a rather mean but tough cowboy that’s trying to make a living by selling his herd of cows. Things get complicated when his brother, played by Jesse Plemons, gets involved with a woman (Kirsten Dunst) and her son (Kodi Smit-McPhee). The movie is an examination of what it really means to be a man and also includes some spectacular cinematography.

The Great British Baking Show: Holidays Season 4 (Netflix)

While Netflix is coming out with a bunch of holiday-themed movies and specials this December, we already know which of them will be the most popular. Yes, it’s time for another holidays edition of The Great British Baking Show. Returning bakers from past seasons are back under the tent to try to make some excellent Christmas treats, or perhaps fail to do so.

Santa Inc. (HBO Max)

This HBO Max exclusive series may look like the stop-motion Christmas specials of old, but it’s definitely not for kids. The eight-episode series centers on a female elf, voiced by Sarah Silverman, who wants to one day replace Santa Claus himself. Seth Rogan voices Santa, and that may clue you in that this show is made just for adult viewing.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid (Disney Plus)

There have been a number of live-action films based on the Diary of a Wimpy Kid book series by author Jeff Kinney. Now, Disney Plus is debuting a CGI animated movie adaption and it looks like the illustrations of the books have come to life. The movie adapts the first book in the series, as young Greg Heffley tries to survive middle school.

Harlem Season 1 (Amazon Prime Video)

Amazon Prime Video debuts a new comedy series that features a group of women and best friends who all live in the Harlem neighborhood of New York City. Each of these women has different careers, and different love lives, but they all try to keep their friendships going even as their lives get more and more complicated.

Mariah’s Christmas: The Magic Continues (Apple TV Plus)

Apple TV Plus brings back singer and diva Mariah Carey for a new Christmas-themed musical special, as she uses her unique singing voice on a number of classic and current holiday tunes.

That’s just a sample of the many new shows and movies that are available to stream this weekend.  We will be back with more recommendations next week, but in the meantime be sure to share your picks for the weekend in the comments!
