Persian, also known as Farsi, is a prominent language in the Middle East and surrounding areas. It boasts 110 million speakers around the world. You may find yourself traveling or vacationing there as it can be quite nice in some areas. Most temporary trips don’t require a massive college course on the language. Many get by with phrasebooks and translation dictionaries. Here are the best English to Persian dictionaries and phrasebooks for Android. This isn’t the most active space for developers so the list won’t change often. Luckily, the options below get consistent updates so at least you have good options for now.

Dict Box is an excellent and simple dictionary app. This one translates between English and Persian (Farsi) and that’s it. There are other apps by the same developer that cover other languages. Some of the features include complete offline support, word suggestions, text pronunciations, pictures, and more. It even works with other apps like your browser. This is a good, simple, lightweight option for those who only need something basic. The premium version removes ads, but otherwise, both free and premium versions work about the same way.

Google Translate is probably your best option for stuff like this. It translates between over 100 languages online and over 50 languages offline (typing only). That’s more than most. Additionally, the app supports live conversation translation, a camera mode to translate stuff like signs or menus, and more. It works for phrases or single words. You can also practice your handwriting here. The app is free and it should work for most folks.

Some other features include offline support, web searches, auto suggestions, pronunciations, synonyms and antonyms, some word games, and a backup and restore option. Most of those do exactly what you expect them to do. This is another cheap, lightweight option that only works with Persian (Farsi) and English. It’s also entirely free with no in-app purchases. Microsoft Translator is actually a really good alternative to Google Translate. It includes many of the same features, including support for five dozen languages along with the ability to translate physical text with your camera. Additionally, the app includes a split-screen mode for translating whole conversations or you can connect two devices and translate between two people that way. Finally, there are actual, built-in phrasebooks for most languages. It does work with Farsi, we checked, and the app is entirely free.

Persian-English Translator is a lightweight, simple translator app. Honestly, we would recommend Google Translate over this. However, this provides a second, lighter option for those that want to go that route. The app features translation between English and Persian (Farsi) and back again. You also get voice input, translation history, and support for both words and phrases. This is really basic and it works pretty well. It’s free with no in-app purchases. There are ads in this app.

Bonus: Persian (Farsi) learning apps

Persian (Farsi) learning apps is another way to get what you need. Most of those apps include basic stuff like a dictionary, a translation service, a phrasebook, and other stuff. Of course, with a language learning app, you also get various lessons, memorization techniques, and stuff like that. It may be in your best interests to just go the extra mile and start learning the language. These apps tend to be much more complex and expensive, but they also contain much more content. We recommend trying out Memrise (linked), Mondly, and Rosetta Stone for the most professional options.
