Platform games are one of the oldest genres in all of video games and it’s also one of the most popular. In fact, the Mario franchise is among the most successful franchises of all time in any genre. Thankfully, the controls translate fairly well to mobile. Thus, there are some decent mobile platformers out there.  Here are the best platformer games on Android!


Adventure Island games

Adventure Island is a developer on Google Play. They make a couple of surprisingly good platformer games. The first is Heart Star. You play as two girls. The player switches between them in order to progress through the level effectively. The other is Super Dangerous Dungeons. This one is a classic retro style platformer. You must avoid obstacles, kill bad guys, and avoid pitfalls. Both titles are excellent. They are also both free with no in-app purchases. They do have ads, though.

Badland 1 and 2

Badland 1 and 2 are very popular platformer games. You play as the world's natives. Your goal is to progress through various obstacles and puzzles to the end. Both games come with gorgeous, atmospheric graphics. They also have simple controls, tons of levels, and more. The first game is the better one for our money. It also includes co-op multiplayer, a level editor, and full support for game controllers. The second game isn't half bad either. However, it still isn't as good as the first one.

Dan the Man

Dan the Man is one of the newer platformer games on mobile. It features a classic platformer experience mixed with modern mobile mechanics. Your goal is to avoid obstacles, kill bad guys, and fight bosses. The game includes a story mode, an endless survival mode, and even a battle mode. You also get upgradeable weapons, abilities, and more. It's a freemium game. Thus, you should adjust your expectations accordingly. Aside from that, though, there isn't much to complain about.

Downwell

Downwell is fairly unique. This game has you continuously dropping down from platform to platform until you complete the level. It comes complete with retro graphics, secrets in almost every level, and plenty of bad guys to overcome. The character has a pair of gunboots. They assist in killing the bad guys directly below you. They also levitate you for easier movement. It's definitely one of the better platform games. It goes for $2.99, but it has no ads or in-app purchases.

Downwell

Geometry Dash series

The Geometry Dash series are some simple platformer games. They also have some rhythm game mechanics. The first is a free/paid title. It features a bunch of levels, a fun soundtrack, character customizations, abilities, powers, and all kinds of other stuff. It goes for $1.99 for the pro version. The latest in the series is Geometry Dash World. This one has a lot of the same mechanics. However, this one is also free with no in-app purchases. The newest one does have ads, though.

Leo's Fortune

Leo's Fortune is one of the most popular platformer games out there. It's also one of the few with Android TV support. The game follows a story where the lead character loses all of his money. Your goal is to get it back. It comes with simple mechanics, beautiful graphics, and more. Each level has a three-star rating to achieve as well as a hardcore hard mode. It doesn't get updates as often these days. However, it doesn't really need them. It goes for $4.99 with no ads or in-app purchases.

Lep's World series

The Lep's World series are a trilogy classic style platformers. Each one contains a ton of levels, various things to do, and more. The latest in the series also includes online multiplayer. These games are surprisingly popular with hundreds of millions of downloads between them. The graphics aren't fantastic, but everything else works really well. All three games are free to download with in-app purchases. Thus, expect to see the freemium element creep into the experience as well.

Never Alone: Ki Edition definitely among the best puzzle platformer games available. In this one, you control a young girl and her named Nuna and her friend Fox as you navigate through various levels, defeat bosses, and solve puzzles. You’ll be frequently switching between the two protagonists frequently to get yourself through obstacles. It’s a very enjoyable game with a ton of extra video content to unlock and watch. The game also includes hardware controller support. The storyline is also rather touching.

PewDiePie: Legend of Brofist

PewDiePie: Legend of Brofist is a slightly different platformer. You play as the venerable YouTube star through various trials and tribulations. Some of the features include boss fights, retro style game play, and more unlockable YouTube stars to play with. It is one of the better platformer titles. However, the game also has shooter elements as well. There are a bunch of goofy hijinks and pop culture references to keep it fresh and fun. In our humble opinion, this is the better of the two PewDiePie mobile games.

Rayman series

Rayman is one of the classic platformer games. There are actually a few of them on mobile. The available options include Rayman Adventures (freemium), Rayman Classic (Free / $0.99), Rayman Jungle Run ($2.99+), Rayman Fiesta Run ($2.99+), and The Adventure of Rayman (Free). All of the games are platformers as well. They often involve quirky stories, decent graphics, and platformer mechanics. Each game also has a set of features unique to its title. You can't really go wrong with any of them.

SEGA Forever games

SEGA Forever is a series of old console games from SEGA. Some of them are platform games. They include Sonic the Hedgehog, Kid Chameleon, Ristar Classic, and others. SEGA also sells Sonic the Hedgehog 2 as well as Sonic 4. Each game has its own set of mechanics, graphics, and styles. However, each one is free to play with ads. You can pay $1.99 for each one to remove those ads. This is a great way to stock up on some retro platform games on the cheap.

Super Mario Run

We may catch a little flack for this one, but that's okay. Super Mario Run is actually one of the better mobile platform games. It doesn't adhere to classic Mario mechanics, though. Mario runs forward through each level. Your goal is to collect as many coins as you can. There are mini challenges like collecting purple coins as well. It also has online multiplayer elements and other game mechanics to play with. You get the first four levels for free. A single $9.99 purchase unlocks the whole game. It's not a five out of five game. However, it's definitely better than its current 3.6 rating on Google Play.

Super Phantom Cat

Super Phantom Cat was one of the most popular platform games of 2016. This one is an ode to the platform games of old and has you running and jumping around, avoiding obstacles, taking down bad guys, and solving little puzzles. The gameplay mechanics are easy to learn, but you’ll need to all but master them in order to make it all the way through the game. There are also unlockable characters that you can play as, bonus levels, and the game only has one real in-app purchase for energy drinks.

Sword of Xolan

Sword of Xolan isn't the most popular platform game on the list. It's still good, though. It’s a 16-bit style game where you must run and jump through levels, use your sword to take down bad guys, and defeat bosses The game is a little short and features only about 30 levels, three boss fights, and nine additional challenge levels. However, it’s one of the cleanest retro games that we’ve seen. On the plus side, it's only $0.99 with no additional in-app purchases. It's good for a quick playthrough.

Vector 1 and 2

Vector 1 and 2 are among the most unique platformer games. They feature a parkour style of game play. Both of them employ silhouette-style graphics where your character is black and it’s placed on a brightly colored background. The premise of both games are that you are trying to escape from the proverbial man using your expert skills in parkour. The execution isn’t quite that exciting, but it’s still a relatively good time. The games are pretty decent, but they both have their issues. Vector 1 is an incomplete port of its iOS counterpart while Vector 2 is a freemium game. It's something different, though.
