Survey shows Chrome still rules Android, but another browser is breathing down its neck

Using the same set of core apps every day is like wearing one’s favorite comfortable outfit. It’s why I have my favorite launcher, productivity apps, and streaming products. When it comes to browsers, my pick is and will likely remain Firefox for many years to come, even if up-and-coming browsers are challenging its position.

Given that browser choice is highly personal and isn’t always the product brimming with functionality, I was interested in our readers’ preferences. Chrome? Firefox? Something else entirely, perhaps? I conducted a poll, and the results are below.

This poll garnered just under 1,500 votes, but only one browser received nearly a third of the support. With 32.1% of the vote, Google Chrome remains our readers’ preferred browser on Android.

This result isn’t too surprising. Chrome is easy to use, readily available, and plugs into almost every other service you’ll find on Android. However, it’s one of the more anemic products available when you look solely at its feature set. No extension support is an issue for me and likely for many others.

Coming in second is a browser that offers a Chrome-like experience with a host of useful additions. Brave received 27.2% of the vote, and I imagine that over a quarter of respondents appreciate its built-in VPN and ad-blocking smarts.

Firefox landed third with 17.5% of the vote. It’s a notable distance behind Chrome and Brave, but was the only other browser to rack up a double-digit percentage.

In total, these three browsers received more than three-quarters of the support in this poll, leaving slim pickings for the niche choices. Topping this sub-list is Samsung Browser with 6.4%, with Vivaldi (4.8%) and Microsoft Edge (4.2%) following closely behind.

More interestingly, more readers use a Firefox fork (2.6%) than a Chromium-based browser (2.2%) not listed as one of the options. Yes, it’s a minor difference in support, but it’s nonetheless surprising given Chrome’s general dominance over Firefox.
