Selfies. Some of us have been taking “them” for well over a decade before the media decided to “invent” them. We were called vain, strange, and weird. Fast forward to 2014 and they have won awards for re-tweets, altered camera software, and even been globally recognized. HTC, another company widely associated with vanity and image, is therefore the perfect choice to debut new hardware to serve the new lexicon and AT&T, eager to participate, is going to help you out.

Starting this Friday, the HTCDesire Eye and the HTCRE camera will be available at Ma Bell for the portrait preferring populace.

The Desire Eye is a trendy looking phone with bold color choices and a flare for the dramatic: it features a pair of 13-megapixel cameras with dual LED flash, one on the back and one on the front. As far as specs go, the offering is quite well equipped, with a 2.3 GHz quad core Snapdragon 801 CPU,2GB of RAM, 5.2 inch 1080 LCD3 screen, and IPx7 certification allowing it to be submerged in up to 1 meter of water for up to 30 minutes. Rounding out the specs include HTC’s signature BoomSound speaker arrangement. The 16GB of internal storage might not seem like enough to store all the selfies, however the phone supports up to 128GB of microSD storage. Rounding out the basic specs is a rather standard 2400 mAh battery.

The phone will retail for $149.99 on a 2-year contract, $549 off-contract, and be available on AT&T Next for around $25 a month.

The RE camera is a pocket sized periscope designed to allow for effortless photography and video on-the-go. It can be mounted and the 16-megapixel camera will record the adventure, uploading everything to the cloud for your viewing pleasure. Retailing for $200, AT&T will have a promotion (similar to its upcoming Moto 360/Moto X offer) wherein customers purchasing it alongside the Eye will get a $50 discount.

HTC is certainly diversifying its product line up this year, and indeed it seems things have been paying off. As to Selfie’s next big accomplishment, we can only wait.
