TL;DR
  • At a Glance is getting several additions courtesy of Google’s Pixel Drop and Android ecosystem updates.
  • These additions include three new types of information, including more robust commuter details, finance roundups, and sports scores.

Google is rolling out new updates to the At a Glance feature on Pixel smartphones as part of its latest Pixel Drop and Android ecosystem update bundle.

More specifically, At a Glance can now display three additional types of information in its home screen and lock screen widget slots.

These include:

  • My Commute: At a Glance can now display “real-time transit updates,” including delays, departures, and alternative routes, on both home and lock screens. It also syncs up with Transit Mode, a feature that’ll automatically adjust your phone’s ringer and volume settings and switch on Bluetooth for easy peripheral connections.
  • Sports scores: This is an update to At a Glance’s sports notifications. It’ll now display real-time updates for all followed teams while their matches are in progress.
  • Finance: Finally, At a Glance will offer an “end-of-day” update from your watchlist for items deep in the red or green. This should allow users to get a better sense of the economic temperature of the trading day.

Notably, the commuter features are available only on Pixel 7 and newer phones. It’s also available globally except in the UK and Europe. The other two additions are available on Pixel 6 devices but not on the Pixel Tablet.

These changes come after Google introduced an option to hide the At a Glance widget from Pixel home screens with Android 17 beta 1. While I’ve exercised this option, these changes may just tempt me to reactivate the feature going forward.
