ASUS announces price reductions for its Zenfone 3 lineup in India

We’ve been hearing a lot about ASUS’ ZenFone 4 family as of late: we saw a reference to the ZenFone 4 Max as early as May, and rumors speculated that the ZenFone 4 family might launch later that month. However, ASUS CEO Jerry Shen subsequently clarified that instead of making their debut during Computex like their predecessors, this year’s ZenFone devices would officially launch in late July in order to better position the Taiwanese company against rising Chinese competition.

Well, one of the ZenFone 4 family members has officially been unveiled in Russia – the ZenFone 4 Max. But don’t let its specs fool you: while the device comes with features that you might expect from a high-end smartphone like a dual-camera set-up and a massive battery, the official starting price in Russia is RUB 13,900, or approximately $235 in USD.

Don’t let its specs fool you: the official starting price in Russia is RUB 13,900, or approximately $235 in USD.

Riding the wave of its extremely popular predecessor, the ZenFone 4 Max brings some important upgrades. The phone now has a 5.5-inch FHD IPS display, a 13-megapixel dual-lens camera (details are scarce for now, unfortunately), an 8-megapixel selfie-shooter, and a whopping 5,000 mAh battery. Depending on the configuration, it’ll come with up to 4GB of RAM and 64GB of expandable storage. Helpix, the Russian publication which originally reported the ZenFone 4 Max’s availability, says that the device will be powered by either Snapdragon 425 or Snapdragon 430 although it’s unclear whether it’ll be dependent on the storage configuration or geographical market.

If the ZenFone 3 family is any indication, the ZenFone 4 Max should be one of the most affordable phones among the ZenFone 4 devices. While the original source does not specify whether it’ll be available outside Russia, given Jerry Shen’s comment from a few weeks ago, it’s likely that we will see the full unveiling of all ZenFone 4 phones as well as their availability and pricing towards the end of this month.
