Apple Music is giving its Android app the glow up it desperately needed

It’s great that we’re finally at a point now where some of the best services from companies behind major smartphone platforms are no longer locked to their own device ecosystems, and you can access Gemini on your iPhone as easily as you can watch Apple TV on your Pixel. But just because those doors are open doesn’t mean that users will get the same experience everywhere, and it’s not uncommon to see a bit of disparity. Apple Music has been on Android for over a decade now, but lately the Android app has felt like it’s lacking some of the polish of its iOS sibling. That’s now starting to at least get a little better, with the release of Apple Music 7.0 for Android.

Over on X, user Sumanta Das gave us a heads-up that the app’s new look was rolling out. Sure enough, we can confirm that users registered for the Apple Music beta are now receiving a refreshed UI. Take a look at how it compares:

Easily the most prominent change is the new nav bar, embracing the same rounded, floating look you might be familiar with from iOS. We even get a touch of Liquid Glass translucency.

We’re also seeing big changes when it comes to artist pages:

Seriously, how much better does that look? This is a night-and-day overhaul, like moving from a Lollipop phone to present-day Android.

Apple’s also making it easier to get at those “About” bios, and instead of scrolling down to the bottom of an artist page, you can now just hit that “i” next to the play button.

Looking through app strings a little, we find the text of Apple’s changelog for this release:

  A streamlined design makes it easier to navigate and puts more focus on your music.

As you can see, in addition to the beautiful UI refresh, we’re also getting a functional upgrade to how playlists work.
