Android 17 QPR 1 Beta 9 shares its fixes as Google puts on the finishing touches
Aug 17, 2026 — 4:52 PM ET

- Android 17 QPR 1 Beta 9 is available now for Pixel 6 and newer devices.
- It’s been just over two weeks since the arrival of Beta 8 in late July.
- With September just weeks away, that’s not much time for further QPR1 revisions.
Google’s latest hardware may finally have shared all its secrets, with the Pixel 11 series going official last week, but the company’s software story is one that only keeps adding new chapters. We just saw Android 17 QPR2 Beta 3 land over the weekend, and now we’re getting our latest taste of QPR1, with the release of Android 17 QPR 1 Beta 9.
Beta 9 marks Google’s first QPR1 release this month, following the arrival of QPR1 Beta 8 at the very end of July, and as you should only assume for a release numbered this high, this build is all about bugfixes, bugfixes, bugfixes.
Here are the big ones Google tells us to expect:
- Swiping the bottom gesture bar to switch between apps failed after invoking Circle to Search by updating system gesture handling to properly reset navigation focus. (Issue #529422135)
- Unexpected loud noise plays during media playback and notification interactions. (Issue #509007703, Issue #508456570, Issue #512158576, Issue #514265107, Issue #520904833, Issue #519636478, Issue #517242741, Issue #519578674, Issue #519191172, Issue #507873728, Issue #519418933, Issue #517194839, Issue #516440003, Issue #514606256, Issue #514047990, Issue #513681197, Issue #512813456, Issue #512212036, Issue #500342049, Issue #498147587, Issue #505780177, Issue #523640480, Issue #524719397, Issue #523304213, Issue #531669961, Issue #534620345, Issue #536625907, Issue #536292570, Issue #538400224, Issue #541204384, Issue #541243460, Issue #541257484, Issue #539706747, Issue #540327575, Issue #539563805)
- Devices can enter a continuous reboot loop every 20 to 30 seconds. (Issue #507915695)
- Taskbar icons unexpectedly disappeared when launching apps or entering bubble mode on foldable devices. (Issue #535467363)
- An issue causing intermittent battery drain. (Issue #536626112)
Android 17 QPR1 is preparing to debut as Google’s September Feature Drop, and with August already half behind us, that does not leave the company with a lot of time to finish getting its ducks in a row for this release.
Will we get a Beta 10 another two weeks down the road, ahead of that stable release? With the way these QPR builds have been stacking up, anything’s possible — but we definitely hope Google manages to finally get this software where the developers want it to be sooner rather than later. Google does call this “the final beta release for Pixel 6 and 6 Pro,” so it certainly sounds like the plan is for Beta 9 to be our last release before stable — but who knows if any last-minute bugs will require a reevaluation of that strategy.
