Amazon's updated Fire TV interface brings user profiles and a fresh look
- Amazon is rolling out a revamped Fire TV interface.
- The new UI includes user profiles and a fresh design focused on discovering shows.
- It’s first coming to the 3rd-generation Fire TV Stick and Stick Lite.
The Fire TV platform is about to get an (arguably overdue) software upgrade to help it compete with rival media hubs. As Cord Cutters News reports, Amazon is rolling out a Fire TV interface update that should give you a more personalized experience.
For one, there’s a new user profile selection screen that offers a customized experience for up to six people. The main interface itself is appropriately more personalized, with a fresh Home destination that focuses on show recommendations (both live and on-demand) across services.
It should be easier to search for content as well. The Fire TV update adds a revamped Find menu (pictured above) with categories and genres to help you sift through broader topics. Alexa integration should improve, too.

You may be waiting a while to try the new UI depending on your device. Amazon is first rolling out the update to the third-generation Fire TV Stick and Fire TV Stick Lite over the weeks ahead. Other devices should get their upgrades later.
A refinement like this is arguably necessary. Competition has become much fiercer in the media streaming world between Google’s Chromecast with Google TV, recent Roku software updates (including AirPlay 2 and HomeKit for Apple users) and ever more powerful smart TVs. Amazon might need the new Fire TV update to keep its platform relevant and keep you from switching to one of its competitors.
