Survey says there's a good chance you're intrigued by this novel AI use case

I’ll admit it: I use AI for all sorts of daily tasks. My favorite use cases include reviewing property listings and assessing value and asking prices, explaining the factors at play in the global economy, and using it as a devil’s advocate to balance my own biases. I’ve never thought of using it to create ringtones, but my colleague Andrew Grush has done just that. Using Gemini and Zedge, he was finally encouraged to take his device out of silent mode and let it ring ring ring!

However, given the anti-AI sentiment that many hold, we were interested in how many of our readers had used AI in the past to create custom ringtones. We asked this in a recent poll, and the results can be viewed below.

This survey received over 2,700 responses, and one thing is immediately clear: This certainly isn’t a common use case for AI. In total, just over 130 voters, or around 5% of the total vote, had attempted this. More interestingly, 53 voters weren’t impressed by the results, while 83 were “fans” of the end product.

Don’t take the results as a sign that readers aren’t tempted to give AI ringtones a go, though. Remarkably, nearly three-quarters (74.9%) of voters “might try now” after reading Andrew’s breakdown.

A fifth of respondents (20.5%) are against this use of AI entirely, and “prefer to get ringtones made by real people.”

As someone who doesn’t enjoy phone calls, I prefer my phone on vibrate or silent. Several commenters also echoed this particular setup. However, when I am expecting a ring or a delivery, I reluctantly turn up the ring volume. As for the ringtone, well, I prefer using what’s already on my device.
