The massively popular card game has just arrived on smartphones with some pretty inventive local multiplayer. Right now, Exploding Kittens is only available on iOS, but word on the street is that it will be coming to Android during the vague timeframe of “soon.”

The non-digital version of Exploding Kittens is a devious card game in which you attempt to out-think and out-guess your friends to avoid drawing said incendiary felines. Through trickery and betrayal, one by one players are eliminated until only one unexploded player remains.

Both the card game and the mobile app feature artwork by Matthew “The Oatmeal” Inman, and the concept is the brainchild of professional fun-makers Shane Small and Elan Lee. It began as a Kickstarter project that set (and has maintained) a world record for the highest number of backers of all time. These 219,382 supporters raised $9 million to make this card game a reality.

The mobile app will use local multiplayer and can be played by up to six people at a time. Each player uses his or her own smartphone, but they don’t actually communicate over the internet. Rather, the app creates a kind of jerry-rigged network using Bluetooth and WiFi. The app, which is now available in the Apple Play Store, costs $1.99 and includes in-app purchases. However, as an introductory perk for early-bird buyers, all in-app purchases will be 100% for the next four days.

What do you think about this newest arrival to the mobile gaming arena? Hopefully we’ll be getting the same four-day grace period on the in-app purchases when it finally hits the Google Play Store. In the meantime, let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
