Samsung has officially unveiled truly wireless earbuds that they are calling the Gear IconX. These fitness earbuds have zero cables – not even one to keep them together. Each is fully independent of its counterpart, but their cordlessness hasn’t resulted in a slouch in specs. Ready for the scoop?

Samsung is marketing these earbuds to the fitness community, so they’ve added some nice features to satisfy just about any workout fanatic. A fitness tracker is built into the earbuds along with full integration with the Samsung S Health app. Compatibility with third party fitness trackers is also available. You’ll have access to in-ear voice guidance to help you reach your goals, and Samsung reports that the Gear IconX will track all of the same information that your phone normally would. That means these babies monitor your heart rate, approximate calories burned during a workout, miles traversed, and so on.

These portable little music makers use Bluetooth 4.1 to connect to your smartphone. No word on Bluetooth 5 support yet, but hey, we can hope! When you spring for Gear IconX earbuds, Samsung includes a sleek carrying case that doubles as a charger as well. The carrying case is a nice addition, because we imagine these tiny devices might be pretty easy to lose track of.

If you’re the kind of exercise enthusiast who doesn’t like to be severed from the outside world while you’re jamming out, Samsung has included an “Ambient Sound Mode.” This feature will let you hear your surroundings over your music by intelligently piping in balanced external audio via microphone.

The real selling point to these earbuds is that you won’t need to have your phone with you to workout to music. The Gear IconX has 4 GB of storage, which equates to roughly a thousand songs. The side casings of the earbuds are capacitive touch surfaces, meaning you can navigate your music with just a few taps and swipes. A voice-assisted menu lets you control a number of different settings through this interface.
