Update: It looks like the Galaxy Note 8 might be announced a little later than expected. According to a report by SamMobile, Samsung just might take the wraps off the upcoming phablet during IFA in Berlin, which kicks off on September 1. This hasn’t been confirmed yet, so there’s still a chance that the tech giant will reveal the Note 8 in mid-August.

Original post: The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 could be here in just two months time, according to South Korean news website The Bell. Citing Samsung Electronics, The Bell states that the new flagship phablet may launch in mid-August, the same period that the Galaxy Note 7 was released in last year (August 19).

The Galaxy Note phones have traditionally been unveiled at the IFA conference in Berlin, which takes place in September, until last year’s Note 7 bucked the trend.

It was anticipated that Samsung would take extra time in releasing the upcoming Note 8, i.e. beyond the typical 12-month production cycle, to ensure the launch went off without a hitch. Last year’s Galaxy Note 7 was recalled twice before being canceled following battery problems, and it was speculated that Samsung delayed the Galaxy S8 release earlier this year for quality assurance purposes.

However, The Bell claims that Samsung has decided to “accelerate the launch of the Galaxy Note 8,” to get a head-start on the upcoming Apple iPhone 8 range. Samsung will no doubt be seeking ways to take the shine off the release of Apple’s 10th anniversary iPhone, but if that means hurrying out another Galaxy Note device, let’s hope the decision doesn’t blow up in Samsung’s face.

The Galaxy Note 8 is expected to come with a 6.3-to-6.4-inch curved display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 836 processor, and a dual-lens, 13 MP, rear-facing camera with AF. An on-screen fingerprint scanner has been ruled out, but the display should house an impressive screen-to-body ratio, like the S8 and S8 Plus.

    Don’t f#*k this up, Samsung!

    • David Martrano

Two things, price & battery size. Hopefully this should be one of the best releases of the year. Plus an 8 point battery check. And a very welcomed S-pen!

Looking forward to the Note 8, hope Samsung won’t make me go towards the Pixel XL 2(though I would be equally happy with it too). Typing this from my S7 Edge :)

  • Frederick Pou

I am really looking forward to the Note 8 and can’t wait to see it. I just hope that this decision doesn’t bite Samsung in the ass just like the Note 7 issue did.

  • thatphonefreak

Bboyheat pretty much sums up my feelings. This is the 5th article i have read saying they are hurrying the launch to beat Apple…. isn’t that what happened last year? I miss my note. I traded in my note 5 for an s8. There have been a few times it has gotten “warm” to the point that I was concerned. I’ll trade it for the Note 8, but if it has “issues” it’s going to force me to the dark side!

    • Modman

Are you kidding me? You Can’t Just find another good phone like HTC U11 or LG G5? So quick to jump ship for igarbage huh?

      • thatphonefreak

Good phone and G5 should not be used in the same sentence. I had the G5 when it first came out (what, 3 years ago now?) and it was a POS.

  • StandingO

Why to delay it if the battery issue is completely solved? 12 months is the usual period, so if it’s ready, why not? 👌

  • mark

    It’s not a Note 8, it’s a five year anniversary Note.

Or maybe we could leave anniversaries for the card shop, and stop pretending that yet another model of apple cell phone is an anniversary.

  • Inajet

Pixel 2 XL here I come. Unless Samsung nails the Note 8.

  • Paul

PLEASE don’t put the fingerprint sensor on the back / off centre. PLEASE make the battery as big as possible (+3600mAh).

    • The fingerprint ship has sailed

    • Alex D’Angelo

It’s dead center below the dual camera..

      so it can explode again

  • Liza Gusarova

    Сannot wait for it!
Might be frightened by the price though….
But definitely will buy it – oh,S Pen,I miss you!

  • primalxconvoy

Not interested in a curved screen. No need and no point for me. I want a removable battery, expandable external memory (cards), at least 32 gigs of internal memory, a great s-pen, regular headphone jack and that it plays nice with the new official Smart Mia Dock.

If it doesn’t, I’ll smile inwardly and stick with my perfectly fine Note 2.

    • mir0mik

Why not Note 4 or 5?

      • Snowriderz

Note 4 is the best !

        • Debbie

I have a Note 4 currently and love it. I hope the Note 8 doesn’t have the battery problems the 7 had. I am looking forward to the Note 8 coming out. Like everybody else I want an S-Pen and expandable memory. Does anybody know if it’ll have a retina scanner? I heard about it a while back.

        • Renu Gadgil

          Note 4 cameras – front n back- are useless…the original Note’s camera’s were waaaaayyyy better…

  • Charity Y Williams

I’m going to hope that Samsung learned their lesson and won’t release a phone before it’s ready. I’m going to have to trust their judgement on this one.
I am disappointed about the lack of on-screen fingerprint scanner. Now all I can do is hope they learned from how badly received the off-center finger print scanner on the S8 was.
I’m looking forward to learning more as details about the Note 8 get leaked.

  • JC

    I’m excited!

  • Simon SeungPyo Hong

If Samsing can’t deliver the on screen fingerprint scanner then just place the fingerprint sensor on the power button on the side like Sony! No gimmiky third button on the back please!

  • HotelQuebec

If DeX runs Windows 10 then I’m sold.

    • sachouba

How could it possibly run Windows 10 ? Windows 10 requires at least 20 GB of storage in 64 bit mode…

I hate the narrow body on my S8+ and who cares if the screen is bigger if the on-screen buttons take up the extra room.

Shame on your for admitting it.

cannot wait! been sad without my note 7, here’s to the note 8 ;)

  • reznorfan0

I dont know why people are so exited about the note 8. Heck, I’ve had mine for years. Sure it was neat at the time, still works, but specs wise it’s nothing to write home about anymore…

    • Damian Bragg

      Ho Ho…

  • Kevin Davis

So, they want to get the Note8 pushed out before the iPhone 8 launches.

No shit, and in other news, water is wet.

  • 3165dwayne

I bet that there will be some explosion comments

  • Dr. Jé

Clearly the fingerprint sensor was last minute for the S8 and looks it.

Get ahead of the iPhone o_O

You basically blended the Note and Galaxy lines …it’s no longer the bigger better really boils down to the pen and other trivial gimmicks

You want ahead of the iFone – if the S8 and Note 7 (keep up) are the same SOC etc. why have such a delay do away with the trash

should have been the S8 and the S8 Pro
keeping the same internals changing the camera and software tweaks doesn’t warrant an entire new product delay – Sam killed the Note line – if it doesn’t have on screen fingerprint that’s a fail it’s another S8 with a pen….again just two models – the regular variant and the pro one….with pen…. hmm hmm hmm they never learn

6.3 – 6.4 screen sounds impressive. A high screen to body ratio sounds impressive. But if some of that screen is taken up by the curved Edge it might just as well not exist. You could have a 6.3 screen but if the screen that’s facing you is only 5.4 or 5.6 inches it’s still not the screen you wanted.

  • I opt for a smaller screen. Anddddddd the most important IR Blaster.
