The OnePlus 5 has been under fire recently for issues regarding some components, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t a great phone. The company has traditionally offered flagship-level specs at a mid-tier price, and the latest iteration is no exception. But what features does it include that sets it apart from other devices available on the market? The alert slider, for one.

This isn’t any old alert slider, either. While the default positions are set to “Ring”, “Do Not Disturb” and “Silent”, there are toggles within the settings that allow you to change how these positions operate.

How to customize the Alert Slider on OnePlus 5

To do this, go to the settings menu, and look for “Alert slider” under the customization section. From here, you’ll be able to select which position you want to manipulate.

Within the “Silent” function, you’ll be able to decide if media volume should be muted, and can toggle vibration on and off. There is a small section labeled “Alarms” which says that alarms will always ring in silent mode, and it seems that you can’t change that function.

The “Do not disturb” position has quite a few more toggles for you to play with. You can decide what kind of notification will cause the phone to ring, such as reminders, events, and repeat callers. You can also set favorite contacts that will always be able to get a call through, so you won’t have to worry if there is an emergency. You can decide if messages alert you by selecting “None”, “Anyone”, “Contacts”, or “Favorite contacts,” in order to let you get the information you need while ignoring all other messages.

Finally, there’s the “Ring” menu. Since this toggle is meant to give you notifications for everything, you can only change whether or not you want your device to vibrate when calls come through. If you don’t often hear your phone but always keep it in your pocket, this would be a good option.

Are you glad OnePlus included an alert slider on the OnePlus 5? It may seem like a relatively minimal feature, but it can be incredibly useful for those that need to keep their phone from distracting them in certain circumstances.
