Google Nexus Player

Did you happen to notice washed out colors in your Nexus device after the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update? You are not alone. Plenty of reports regarding this issue have surfaced online, and Google has even recognized the problem.

There is a bug in the Android 6.0 software for the Nexus Player, Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P. In a way, this is good news, as many of you probably thought this was a hardware issue and not something you can easily fix with an update.

Google goes on to mention that the issue with the Nexus Player is not the same as the one with the smartphones. The cause seems to be different, and the Search Giant has actually fixed the smartphone bug already, they just need to send it out in a future update.

As for the Nexus Player, Google is already working on a fix, we just don’t know when, exactly, it will be hitting your Android TV devices. There also doesn’t seem to be any kind of workaround to fix this, so your best bet is to wait for whenever Google gets to updating your Google devices.

Are any of you experiencing these issues? How bad is the problem? We would be curious to learn about your experiences regarding this matter.

How about they also add SpotifyCast compatibility also.

Truth to be told: Google never cared much for android tv.

  • James Sarino

Haven’t noticed this on my 6P.

    • Nate

I got my nexus player already on marshmallow so if there are washed out colors I won’t notice till its updated and the colors get fixed lol

  • Mike Lobb

I have noticed it on my Nexus Player since it updated to 6.0 Marshmallow, especially on YouTube and Plex… Hope it gets fixed soon!

  • David Bowline

Never had this issue with any devices. Nexus Player, Nexus 5 and Nexus 5x all with gorgeous colors!

  • Pamela Doe

Thank goodness. Now Google needs to fix the Bluetooth bugs on the 6p too.

I’ve had it on my 6p and when I compared it to my old Galaxy Note 4, it was dramatic. Blacks were muddied gray. I’ve been using VLC media player and turning off hardware acceleration to watch my own videos on the phone. That was a temporary fix I found on XDA forums. Once I do that, videos are beautiful and blacks are deep and dark.

But, but, but… Its a Nexus. Isn’t this supposed to be the best android software experience? Everyone told me to get a Nexus instead of my world dominating Note 5.

My Nexus Player, which I just received, updated to Marshmallow pretty quickly and it did seem to me that blacks were a muddled gray, particularly noticeable in the “gray” bars around letterboxed films. Glad to hear it’s a known issue and will be fixed; in the meantime I’m using my Chromecast that this is replacing.

  • Alex Wilder

Heck, I have it on my Nexus 7.

I just updated my Huawei Honor 6 smartphone to H60-L04C900B521 and now the colors are all washed out.

Not only when watching videos, but also my wallpaper, keyboard, well, pretty much everything else looks washed out too.

It looks terrible. It looks as though somebody has decided to turn every color a little more gray. I absolutely hate it.

Does anybody know if there’s a fix for this? Please comment below if you do.
I’m desperate to get my phone back to how it was before.

Hi I had the same problem but there is a solution for it. In the setting choose accessibility and turn off Colour Inversion.
