So when Lenovo showcased the new modular Moto Z line, many sources, ourselves included, thought that the Moto X line was going away with the arrival of this new champion. Apparently this isn’t the case. When contacted about the Motorola X-to-Z transition, the company has responded by letting the public know that the Z line is completely distinct from the X line. This means we can expect to see more Moto X products coming down the pipe in the months to come. In Motorola/Lenovo’s words:

Moto X is alive and well. In fact, Moto X Force recently launched in multiple new markets around the world. Moto X and Moto Z do share some great qualities, but they ultimately provide different experiences and make our portfolio more robust for consumers looking for the perfect smartphone to fit their needs. Tech-hungry consumers who are looking to get a brand new set of experiences from their smartphone will turn to Moto Z and Moto Mods.

Although it looks like Motorola is, understandably, interested in pushing their new Moto Z line heavily, the Moto X label is going to stick around. We will probably be seeing the company unleash flagship devices with Moto Z branding, leaving Moto X for more upper-midrange options. The Moto Z line, after all, has the benefit of Moto Mods, whereas the Moto X line appears to be more of a vanilla experience.

What do you think of Motorola expanding their branding to make a distinction between the more familiar experience of Moto X and the novel, higher budget options afforded by Moto Z? Let us know your opinion in the comments below!
