LG G5 launch day sales are three times greater than the LG G4

The LG G5 has sold at three times the rate of its predecessor the LG G4 on its opening day in South Korea. The LG G5 sold 15,000 units in one day and is expected to hit 10 million globally.

The LG G5 is now available for sale in South Korea and on its opening day has sold at three times the rate of its predecessor the LG G4. According to The Korea Herald, LG sold 15,000 G5’s on its first day of sales, much more than the 5,000 G4’s sold on launch day last year. Industry analysts are predicting the LG G5 to sell 10 million units globally, the same as the LG G3.

The 200% increase in opening day interest was surely helped along by the unique modular design of the LG G5 and the novelty of its LG Friends accessories and peripherals. The figure might even be higher, with the country’s second-largest telco suffering a network outage that delayed 1,000-2,000 additional sales of the device.

To meet the demand, LG’s local manufacturing lines reportedly went into a 24-hour production cycle. To give you some perspective, the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge reportedly shipped 100,000 units in Korea in their first 48-hours. While it’s way too early to say the G5 will represent a turning point for LG, we’ll be keeping a close eye on European and U.S. sales.
