Leaked Huawei Mate 8 renders: sleek body and nearly nonnexistent bezels

by: Edgar CervantesNovember 25, 2015

Huawei has worked hard to make a good name out of the Mate series. These devices have been outstanding, and the latest-generation Ascend Mate 7 happened to get a great review from us. 2015 is now coming to an end and it’s time for the Mate 8 to come around, a phone that should be announced in just a couple days.

Rumors have been coming around, including specs and some images, but we have to say the latest leak offers the best look at the Huawei Mate 8 that we have seen so far. These are not actual shots. Instead, we are presented with a set of press renders that show us every single detail on the phone’s aesthetics.

As we have seen in the past, the Huawei Mate 8 looks to carry a sleek and sturdy metal uni-body so many manufacturers have been adopting lately. They also show a fingerprint reader in the back, as well as a camera and dual-LED flash. The right side of the handset sports a power button and volume rocker, with a 3.5 mm headset jack adorning the top and a charging port in the bottom.

What most of you will notice right away is that screen, though, which seems to predominant when looking at the front. Those bezels are as thin as they get, giving off the impression that there is no metal on the sides of the phone. Now, this could be either good or bad depending on your preferences, but I am sure many of us can agree that it makes the smartphone very good looking.

We won’t know the exact details for a bit, and these images don’t give off anything on the internals, but we have heard the phone will come with a Kirin 950 processor (comparable to the Snapdragon 810), a Mali-T880 GPU 3-4 GB of RAM and 32-64 GB of internal storage.

Stay tuned for more details to come on November 26th! Who knows, we might even get some more leaks and rumors before then. Regardless, are any of you thinking of getting a Huawei Mate 8?

    Looks nice

  • Andreas Larsson

The snapdragon 810 is not even close to kirin 950, try comparable to snapdragon 820

    • not a fan

    • Novage

You are funny. Into a chip, the power is Just a part of the chip.

      • Andreas Larsson

I didn’t even mention the power, the kirin 950 is more similar to 820 than the 810 even with power excluded sweetie

    • Bone

It will sadly let down by the MP4 configuration of the Mali-T880 GPU, which is underpowered and at 900 MHz will likely overheat and downclock quicky at 1440p rendering. Huawei still hasn’t figured the GPUs out in mobile chipsets, the Exynos 8890 uses a 12-core(!) T880 configuration, likely with much lower clocks, so temperatures and performance will be well optimized. At the minimum there should be an MP8 configuration of the Kirin 950 for the QHD Mate 8 variant and clocked much lower.

      • Andreas Larsson

That’s just your speculation, I haven’t seen anything from huawei to confirm that the t880 is mp4 and not mp12

No it is not, it’s been confirmed @Kirin950 launch and explained to AnandTech as a cost-cutting measure.

  • Dis

Hope it is minimum 5.5″ and that it has USB C.

  • Andreas Larsson

A 6″ 1080p screen and atleast 4000mah battery and ois camera and you can have all my money! I don’t even care about the price ?

    • Anantha Krishna

Every Huawei Mate series phone have these as their standard specs.(Though not 1080p, most probably QHD this year as this is becoming the standard)

      • Andreas Larsson

Yea almost these specs, they never had ois before (not counting mate s due to small screen). But they stepped up their camera game this year so I’m definitely excited about the mate 8

        • Anantha Krishna

Good luck. Too bad I don’t have the money to buy it if it is anything above $400.

  • Paul Lemelin

From other rumors: 6″, no USB-C.
I’m looking for metal, 5.5″, USB-C, no Snapdragon 808 or 810, and no heavy UI skin. Neither Nexus fits the bill. Other than that, I don’t like Samsung, LG is meh, and can’t seem to get a good Sony around here. Was hoping this phone might be the one

    • saksham

      go nexus

  • Daniel Rak

Too bad, lack of AMOLED display. Hope it will last 2 days on that battery/screen size. I’ve heard Kirin is more battery friendly compared to previous model. We have to wait for some tests (besides premiere).

  • charlie Jason

Now those are some sexy bezels.

  • Still Dont Give A Fuck

All I need to confirm is that Huawei isn’t breaking the 4,000 mAh tradition here and I’ll buy it… I was hoping for front facing speakers, but with a gorgeous design, Massive battery, fingerprint scanner, fast processor, and (hopefully) a great camera, I’d give that up.

  • flye

Hope that it won’t bend as easy as the 6p
