HTC Rapid Charger 2 Qualcomm

HTC has listed their new Rapid Charger 2.0 on their website. The unit takes advantage of Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 technology and will charge certain HTC phones up to 40 percent faster than a standard charger.

If you are now yelling “take my money” while throwing cash at your computer screen, you may sit back down. The HTC Rapid Charger 2.0 does not yet have pricing or availability listed, but be sure it’s coming soon.

The HTC Rapid Charger 2.0 on a supported device will bring a 60 percent charge to a 3300mAh battery in just 30 minutes.

Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 2.0 technology began rolling out with the Snapdragon 800 SoC, and is available on most newer Snapdragon chipsets as well. However, even though this is a Qualcomm based technology, and the Snapdragon 800 and higher SoCs power a great number of devices, HTC for now is reporting just a small handful of rapid charge capable units, as follows:

If you have the HTC One (M7), the HTC Rapid Charger 2.0 will still work for you, as it backwards support the Quick Charge 1.0 tech found on the original One as well. Just don’t expect the same super speedy results.

Head on over to the HTC accessories page for the HTC Rapid Charger 2.0 to learn more and to keep an eye out for when it starts selling and shipping.

Do you see the need for rapid charging, or are you a plug-it-in-at-night-and-start-every-day-fresh kind of user?

How about a quick charging battery pack that can also quick charge your quick charge enabled devices?

Most batteries will take what you throw at them. They are designed with protection to shut down on full charge. It depends on the wattage of the charger. Asus Nexus 7 comes with a 2.0 watt charger and charges quite fast compared to a 0.5, or a 1.0 watt that takes along time. Most China (ebay) chargers are low wattage chargers, thats why the low price approx.$5.00. Asus and Samsung high end ohones ship with approx 2.0 watt chargers, and charge twice as fast. Thus approx $27.00 for an original. BUT the key to fast charge, is more watts. And the battery is like I said PROTECTED to not blow up when it is fully charged. I dont know what wattage these new turbochargers are, but I will check them out. AND I would talk to an electronics electrician b-4 I purchased one.

I agree to what you say but even the voltage at which the battery is being charged must be increased in order to ensure more ampere input. So I think your kernel must support this feature. Motorola Turbo Charger is 15 Watt as stated by this site http://www.neowin.net/news/motorola-turbo-charger-claims-to-deliver-8-hours-of-battery-life-on-a-15-minute-charge

      • This HTC Charger is also 15W. Sorry I didn’t put that in the article. It’s in the image at the beginning of the article, but I forgot to put it in words.

    • Sandeep Nadella

By the way these turbo chargers are different they can change the voltage they supply based on the request from the phone. Generally they have 3 modes 5V,9V and 12V modes. So they cost much higher

    • Nick

You mean to say amps not watts.

    • Fachri

I think you mean is the amperage not the wattage right ?

  • TheSony/AppleFanatic

    wow!

  • Sandeep Nadella

Is it the same charger given with Nexus 9?

    • Abbas Mustafa Bhaiji

I believe it is the same

    • Corey Watford

I dont think so, seen some unboxings and all were the same M8 charger not this one

  • Haidhar

Will it work with Nexus 5?

    • From the article:

“HTC for now is reporting just a small handful of rapid charge capable units, as follows:

      HTC One M8
HTC One M8 Harmon Kardon Edition
      HTC One E8
      HTC One Remix
      HTC Desire EYE

If you have the HTC One (M7), the HTC Rapid Charger 2.0 will still work for you, as it backwards support the Quick Charge 1.0 tech found on the original One as well. Just don’t expect the same super speedy results.”

So…probably not, at least officially. especially since the Nexus 5 is an LG phone, not an HTC.

    • Abbas Mustafa Bhaiji

      Never

    • abqnm

It should. So should the Moto Turbocharger. Quick Charge 2.0 is a standard developed by Qualcomm, so as long as the charger and device supports the Quick Charge 2.0 standard, it should work.

  • Dave

    Sorry…I meant AMPS not wattage

  • TOM

what does the phone need except the 800 to use this fast charging ? I want to use one of this fast/rapid charger on the LG g2 because the g2 take more than 2 houres to fully charge the battery..

  • Luca Duci

Will this work on htc made google nexus 9? Tegra k1 could be a problem…

    • Kagnon

I believe it has to be Qualcomm unless they licensed it out

  • iJutsu .

All there Rapid Charges associate in my mind with battery frying, and short life…
There was no miraculous revolution in the battery industry since the 80’s, so probably this fast charge will have some negative outcome too, otherwise people would do that long ago…

    • jhaggstx1

It doesn’t mean battery control technology hasn’t advanced…it has.

      • iJutsu .

        How?

  • Jay

Hope it works with the OnePlus One

    • Corneliu M

OnePlus One has a fast charging feature…strainght out of the box.I noticed that nexus 5 charges faster with onePlus one charger

M7 owners, don’t waste your money. Your device only supports Quick Charge 1.0, so any 5V 1A (5W) charger is all you need (though I have found my Samsung 1A charger charges about 30% faster than my stock HTC charger 5V 1A). This won’t benefit you in any way other than giving HTC more money and you less money.
