Gravity was one of the most successful films of 2013, and racked up more awards than Jay Z and Beyonce at the MTV Music awards. Ok, ok… I don’t actually know if that comparison is totally true, but the film did win a lot of prizes, and is now being given away for free to select subscribers on Google Play Movies.

At this point, we don’t know if the film will eventually be free for everyone or if it’s only being given away to random subscribers at Google’s whim. I just checked my device and the film still has a pricetag on it, so there’s no telling how Google is deciding who gets to have it. Perhaps customers with a certain number of rentals/buys? We also aren’t sure if it’s just a one time watch for a certain time period, or if it’s actually added to your library permanently. Google has given away movies for free, in the past, as I received “Big” and “Shaun the Sheep: The Big Chase” (which some are also reporting as free on Google Play today as well) and are mine to watch forever apparently. Thanks Goog.

I watched Gravity a few months agofor the first time, and I’m going to be totally honest about it: I wasn’t terribly impressed. Don’t get me wrong… it certainly wasn’t a bad film, and did have some great parts in it, but it certainly didn’t “wow” me. Either way, if you like the film or are curious to see it, but sure to check on Google Play Movies to check if you are one of the lucky ones to get it for free.
