BADLAND quickly became one of the better platform games. It contains over 100 levels along with 23 multiplayer levels as well. If that doesn’t seem like enough, there is also a level creation mechanic where you can build your own levels and share them with other players. The game features some unique graphics with silhouetted characters and colorful backgrounds. It’s a solid overall experience. You can download the game for free to play a demo and then pay for the whole thing for $3.99 as an in-app purchase.

Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons is a puzzle-platform game where you play as two characters. These two boys are looking for a cure to their father’s terminal illness. You progress through the game by using both characters to tackle various obstacles. It features decent graphics, an actual storyline, and a unique control scheme. You’ll be controlling both characters simultaneously which adds a bit of difficulty. The game isn’t overly long and most should be able to complete it in a few hours, but at least there are no in-app purchases.

Cordy 1 and 2 are a couple of platform games that have been around for a while. They’re still among the better titles in the genre. There are dozens of levels packed into the game along with achievements, character customization, and more. You’ll explore World 1 and World 2 and save them from bad guys. They’re a little simple but should provide a great time for fans of the genre.

Downwell is one of the newer platform games and it’s fairly unique. In this title, you continuously drop down from platform to platform until you complete the level. It comes complete with retro graphics, secrets in almost every level, and plenty of bad guys to overcome. You’ll be equipped with gunboots that allow you to take out enemies below you and offer you a few moments of levitation. It’s a fun little time waster that comes with a cheap price tag and no in-app purchases.

GameStart is an arcade platformer where you must beat up bad guys. It was originally developed as a promotional game for GameStart 2015, but it’s actually a lot of fun. There are a ton of cameos from various characters from other video game franchises. You unlock characters as you progress and each character has their own set of moves. There is also a leaderboard in the game so you can try to beat your top score over and over again. It is, without a doubt, the best game that is also completely free with no in-app purchases.

Granny Smith is one of the older platform games on Android and it’s been one of the best for a long time. In this classic, you play as an angry grandma who is tracking down the person who is stealing her precious apples. You’ll be rollerskating through anything and everything causing all kinds of destruction. Think of it like Goat Simulator, except this one has a story line and it takes place in 2D. It’s relatively inexpensive which makes it a fun game to pickup. The only downside is the game hasn’t been updated since 2014.

Leo’s Fortune instantly became one of mobile’s best platform games when it was shown off on Android TV during Google I/O. It features a little green fuzz that has lost his entire fortune and it’s your job to help him get it back. There are various obstacles and each level has a 3-star rating which adds a bit of replay value. The graphics are pretty decent and the mechanics are among the best on mobile. Like Granny Smith, the game hasn’t been updated in a while, but it should still work on most devices.

Mikey Shorts is a fairly typical platform game. You play as a character named Mikey and your job is to slide, jump, and run through all of the levels in order to complete them. The main mechanic of this game is the collection of coins which are then used to purchase disguises for Mikey Shorts. There are over 80 levels to complete and 170 disguises to collect. There are also achievements and each level has a three star rating to complete. The game should be completely free which is just icing on the cake.

Never Alone: Ki Edition is a puzzle platformer that isn’t altogether different from Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons. In this one, you control a young girl and her named Nuna and her friend Fox as you navigate through various levels, defeat bosses, and solve puzzles. You’ll be frequently switching between the two protagonists frequently to get yourself through obstacles. It’s a very enjoyable game with a ton of extra video content to unlock and watch. The storyline is also rather touching.

PewDiePie: Legend of the Brofist is one of the more unique platform games. In this one, you’ll play as PewDiePie (along with other famous YouTube gamers) as you navigate through a variety of levels and take on a variety of bosses. It is predominately a platformer, although it does have some shooter mechanics as well. It’s a fun and goofy romp that is full up on pop culture references and jokes. There are also various difficulty levels and unlockable stuff for you to play through.

Rayman is a series of platform games that started life on the original PlayStation. The original has been ported to mobile along with a few “made for mobile” versions that culminate in four games. Each game has different mechanics, but they are all platform games where you play as Rayman. They range from freemium titles with in-app purchases to pay-once games so there is at least one game out there no matter what kind of game you like to play. Retro gamers will be happy to see that the original Sonic the Hedgehog 1 and 2 are both available on Android. These classic platform games have you played as Sonic as you bolt through tons of levels in order to save little woodland creatures and defeat Dr Robotnik. The original two games come in their original forms with a few extra features tossed in for good measure. You can also check out Sonic 4, which is an episodic adventure (each episode has its own game) series of platform games that also feature Sonic. Pretty much all of them are worth playing.

Super Phantom Cat is among the newer platform games released on Android. This one is an ode to the platform games of old and has you running and jumping around, avoiding obstacles, taking down bad guys, and solving little puzzles. The gameplay mechanics are easy to learn, but you’ll need to all but master them in order to make it all the way through the game. There are also unlockable characters that you can play as, bonus levels, and the game only has one real in-app purchase for energy drinks. Overall, it’s not bad.

Sword of Xolan is a lesser-known platform game that is an ode to the platform games of old. It’s an 16-bit style game where you must run and jump through levels, use your sword to take down bad guys, and defeat bosses at the end of every act. The game is a little short and features only about 30 levels, three boss fights, and nine additional challenge levels. However, it’s one of the cleanest retro games that we’ve seen. It’s also relatively inexpensive to pick up and play which makes it one that’s worth trying.

Vector 1 and 2 are unique parkour-style platform games. Both of them employ silhouette-style graphics where your character is black and it’s placed on a brightly colored background. The premise of both games are that you are trying to escape from the proverbial man using your expert skills in parkour. The execution isn’t quite that exciting, but it’s still a relatively good time. The games are pretty decent, but they both have their issues. Vector 1 is an incomplete port of its iOS counterpart while Vector 2 is a freemium game. They’re unique enough to try at the very least.
