TL;DR
  • YouTube is turning its earlier Custom Feed experiment into a full feature that lets you build recommendation feeds with conversational prompts.
  • You can save multiple feeds for different interests, moods, or routines, and YouTube will keep them updated with fresh recommendations.
  • Custom Feeds are coming soon to users in the US across mobile, web, and TVs.

YouTube’s Home tab has always had a funny way of overreacting. Watch one random woodworking video, and suddenly the algorithm can decide you’ve found your new life’s calling. Last year, YouTube started testing a way to fight that problem by letting some users tell an AI chatbot what they actually wanted to see. Now that experiment is growing up, with YouTube officially announcing Custom Feeds, giving viewers a more direct way to build separate recommendation feeds around specific interests, routines, or moods.

The original test added a “Your Custom Feed” chip beside Home for select users. You could prompt YouTube to adjust what appeared there, essentially correcting the recommendation algorithm instead of waiting for your watch history to do the job.

The version YouTube has just announced goes further. Instead of one experimental feed, viewers can create and save multiple Custom Feeds using conversational prompts. You could make one for evening wind-down with long documentaries, another for discovering new DIY creators, or something as specific as podcasts for a 30-minute commute.

Those feeds will live on the Homepage and automatically refresh with new recommendations. That separation could be the biggest win. Rather than letting every passing curiosity muddy your main recommendations, you can keep different interests in their own lanes.

YouTube says Custom Feeds are coming this fall to users in the US across the web, mobile apps, and TVs, turning last year’s limited experiment into a much broader feature.

Custom Feeds aren’t the only viewer-focused upgrade announced today. After rolling out to mobile users, YouTube is now expanding Ask YouTube with shopping-focused questions, follow-ups, and organized product comparisons, including voice interaction on TVs.

Made On YouTube 2026 also included plenty for creators, including conversational editing, video A/B testing, improved likeness detection, and new Live tools. But for everyday viewers, Custom Feeds could be the change that makes YouTube’s recommendations feel less like a guess and more like something you deliberately shaped.
