Reports are coming in that an Android 5.0 Lollipop update had started rolling out to Sony Xperia Z Ultra GPE owners, although there hasn’t been a word from Sony about the update yet. Sony has already shown off early Lollipop builds for its flagship Xperia smartphones, but it seems that Z Ultra GPE owners are the first to actually get their hands on the update.

The update weighs in at 397.3MB and requires 500MB of free space on the Ultra before it can be installed. As you would expect, the Lollipop update brings a host of changes. These include a new, bolder visual style (aka Material Design), improved performance, new lock screen notifications, battery saving mode, and Smart Lock features.

Other GPE handsets, such as the HTC One M8 and M7, are also set to receive their own Lollipop updates soon. As for Sony’s extended range, the company has already promised that all of its Xperia Z devices, not just the GPE versions, will also receive updates sometime in early 2015.

If you didn’t do so upon seeing the headline, Xperia Z Ultra GPU owners might find this a good time to perform a manual update check. Don’t be disappointed if an update doesn’t appear right away, regional rollouts can take some time.
