TL;DR
  • Xiaomi’s next foldable phone could launch later this year.
  • A reliable leaker has revealed some of its hardware details.

Q4 is expected to be an exciting time for the launch of new foldable phones. Xiaomi is one of the brands expected to debut a new folding device during the period and reliable Chinese leaker Digital Chat Station has now revealed some of its details.

According to the tipster, the new Xiaomi foldable phone will come with an inward folding design just like the Mi Mix Fold that the company launched in China. The similarities between Xiaomi’s existing foldable phone and its upcoming model don’t end here.

The new device will also come bearing a 108MP main camera and a 5,000mAh battery as per the leaker. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like the phone will use Qualcomm’s new flagship chip expected to launch in December. Instead, it may use the existing Snapdragon 888 processor as the leaker claims the phone will launch before Qualcomm reveals its new SoC.

Xiaomi foldable phone: What’s new?

Upgrades on the new Xiaomi foldable phone are expected to come in the form of an under-display selfie camera and faster displays. The Mi Mx Fold has a 60Hz internal and a 90Hz external display, but the new phone is expected to bump up the screen refresh rate of the internal display to 120Hz. The outer screen might still sport a 90Hz refresh rate.

With these specs, it’s looking more and more like the new Xiaomi foldable phone will have a form factor similar to the Mi Mix Fold. A previous report tipped that Samsung is making the main screen and CSOT is making the “accessory” screen of the phone. This suggested that we might see a clamshell foldable instead of a tablet-sized device.

That said, Xiaomi hasn’t started teasing the device officially, so we just have to wait and watch what it has in store.
