The Xiaomi 12 series is coming next week, and here's the first official look
- Xiaomi has confirmed a December 28 launch event for the Xiaomi 12 series.
- The company says the standard model will be a smaller flagship.
- It also posted an image showing the Xiaomi 12 and Xiaomi 12 Pro.
Xiaomi confirmed at the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 reveal earlier this month that it will launch the Xiaomi 12 series, with the base model purportedly appearing via leaked renders.
Now, Xiaomi has taken to Weibo to announce a December 28 launch event in China at 7:30 PM Beijing time (6:30 AM ET). The company also clarified in the post that the Xiaomi 12 is a “small-sized” flagship (echoing previously leaked dimensions), while the Xiaomi 12 Pro is an “all-round” flagship phone.
Xiaomi’s attached invite poster gives us a look at the two phones as well, showing a notable size difference between the devices. You can view the poster below.
Xiaomi didn’t disclose any specs just yet, but we’re expecting the aforementioned Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC in at least one phone, 67W or higher wired charging, and 120Hz OLED screens. Leaked dimensions via frequent tipster Steve Hemmerstoffer point to the vanilla model being just 152.7mm tall, making it slightly bigger than the Galaxy S21 but smaller than the Galaxy S20 FE and Redmi Note 10.
This isn’t the only announcement on the day though, as the MIUI Weibo account name-dropped the MIUI 13 update while co-founder Lei Jun mentioned the update alongside the Xiaomi 12 series as well. MIUI updates in the last few years have been buggy affairs on some phones, but the post specifically mentions a focus on speed and stability.
