TL;DR
  • WhatsApp has rolled out the ability to preview voice notes.
  • You’ll need to enter hands-free recording mode to preview your voice memo.

Voice notes are one of the most popular ways to communicate on WhatsApp, but one of the more glaring issues is that there’s no way to preview the recording before sending it. Thankfully, WhatsApp is now pushing out a solution.

The company announced on social media (h/t: Android Central) that it will now let you preview voice notes before sending them. It’s a rather handy addition as the alternative is to rapidly delete the erroneous voice note after it’s been sent or as it’s being sent.

To take advantage of the feature, you’ll need to hold down on the microphone button and then swipe up to enter hands-free recording mode. Once you’ve completed recording, the app will let you hit the play button to listen to the voice memo first.

We’re glad to see this option arrive in WhatsApp then, although we’d like to see a toggle for voice note previews even when you’re just holding down the microphone button.

This tweak is the latest addition to WhatsApp in 2021, joining features like revised multi-device support, transferring chat histories from iPhone to Android, and creating your own stickers (albeit on desktop right now).
