Facebook’s apps all offer Story functionality, but it now seems like Instagram‘s ever-popular Boomerang feature is the latest feature to spread to other Facebook-owned apps.

According to ever-reliable tipster WABetaInfo, the WhatsApp team is working on a Boomerang-style feature for iOS. But the tipster adds that the functionality will land on Android as well.

Instagram’s Boomerang function allows you to endlessly loop a video backwards and forwards, akin to a GIF. WABetaInfo says the WhatsApp take is similar, allowing you to loop a part of any video that’s less than seven seconds in length.

WhatsApp’s Boomerang feature will reportedly be available in the video type panel, which usually allows you to choose a video or GIF as the desired format before sending it. Alongside these existing options, you’ll find an arrow pointing to the left, denoting Boomerang as a third format.

There’s no word on a release date for the feature, but it certainly seems like a major addition to the platform given its popularity on Instagram. What else would you like to see on WhatsApp? Let us know in the comments!
