Intriguing adverts from a new U.K. mobile network called Voxi have been doing the rounds lately advertising data plans with “Endless Social Media.” But what is Voxi, what does “Endless” mean, and is Voxi good as a mobile operator compared to traditional U.K. networks like EE, Vodafone, O2, and Three?

Here’s everything you need to know about Voxi including details on the company’s origin, its phone plans, and much more.

What is Voxi?

Launched on Sep. 9, 2017, Voxi is a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) that piggybacks on another carrier’s network rather than using its own mobile infrastructure. Unlike some MVNOs that operate separately from the network source, Voxi is owned by Vodafone U.K and uses the Vodafone network.

Voxi initially sold SIM only plans exclusively to customers under the age of 25. The age limit rose to under 30s in 2018 before the limit was removed completely in April 2019. Voxi now sells not just SIM only plans, but phones on contract and unlocked SIM free as well.

This makes Voxi, as a company, less than two years old. Since it’s an MVNO, it hasn’t experienced many of the teething problems that a full network might. Vodafone U.K., its parent, is one of the U.K.’s longest running mobile networks.

Voxi plans and pricing

Voxi plans aren’t contracts and you can opt out at any time and only pay for the month that you used. The plans come with a 30-day allowance of unlimited texts, unlimited minutes, “Endless Social Media” and either 6GB, 15GB, or 45GB for £10, £15, and £20 pounds per month, respectively. At the time of writing, Voxi is offering 8GB and 15GB of data on the two cheaper plans as part of a promotion.

What does Voxi’s Endless Social Media mean?

Instagram logo on a Pixel smartphone - Voxi Endless Social Media

So what does “Endless Social Media” mean? Voxi’s unique offer means that you’ll have unlimited access to the following approved social media applications:

  • Facebook
  • Whatsapp
  • Snapchat
  • Twitter
  • Instagram
  • Messenger
  • Pinterest
  • Viber

Since what so many of us do on our smartphones in 2019 involves the aforementioned apps, it means that you can browse as much as you want and not eat into your data allowance. This is ideal for users who are incredibly active on social media.

There are ways of adding music and video services to your plan with the “Endless Music Pass” and “Endless Video Pass” which are £5 and £7 per month extra, respectively. These add-ons let you stream music or video from the following apps without using your data allowance:

Voxi Endless Video Pass

  • Netflix
  • YouTube
  • Amazon Prime
  • DisneyLife
  • My5
  • Tvp
  • UKTVPlay

Voxi Endless Music Pass

  • Spotify
  • Apple Music
  • TIDAL
  • Deezer
  • Soundcloud
  • Prime Music
  • Napster

Voxi coverage

Since Vodafone U.K. owns and runs Voxi, it goes without saying that the new and upcoming MVNO is run on Vodafone’s infrastructure.

Vodafone covers 99 percent of the U.K.’s population which places it in the top three networks for coverage. It’s not the fastest out there, that crown still belongs to EE, but it’s close, beating O2 and Three on average.

You can check Voxi’s 4G, 3G, and 2G coverage using the Voxi coverage checker.

Voxi network frequencies

Tethering is included across all three of Voxi’s plans, allowing you to use your data on a laptop, PC, or any other device with Wi-Fi whilst browsing social on your phone. 4G Calling (VoLTE) and Wi-Fi Calling are both disabled, currently, which is unfortunate since Vodafone offers both with its own plans.

Voxi 5G

Vodafone has yet to launch its 5G network which means Voxi does not yet offer 5G plans or 5G phones. Vodafone is expected to switch on its 5G network in 2019 and is currently trialling 5G in the region.

Voxi phones

Voxi currently only offers phones (on and off contract) from four companies:

  • Apple
  • Huawei
  • Samsung
  • Sony

Voxi perks

Voxi alternatives

GiffGaff and iD Mobile are Voxi’s closest competitors in the budget monthly plan space. Neither offer the exclusive “Endless Social Media” that Voxi does, however, iD allows you to keep data that you don’t use for the next month. GiffGaff’s perk is that you can buy a phone on contract without a SIM plan.

Mainstream carriers, namely Three, EE and O2, don’t offer anywhere near the value of the aforementioned MVNOs. For the money, Voxi and iD Mobile seem to be the top dogs, but Voxi does take the edge thanks to its “Endless Social Media” perk.

Voxi review verdict

Say hi to voxi slogan on Voxi website - Voxi review

Voxi looks to be right on track to live up to its hype, offering incredibly competitive plans, working on a well-covered network, and including their exclusive “Endless Social Media” perk. For those who are constantly scrolling through Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook, constantly eating up their data, Voxi is an incredibly exciting proposition.

Voxi is quickly becoming a household name, especially among youngsters

For a carrier that is less than two years old, Voxi is quickly becoming a household name, especially among youngsters. Its aggressive marketing campaigns (you’ve probably seen it during breaks for ITV’s hit show Love Island) and savvy social media campaigns have cleverly positioned it as teens’ first choice network in the U.K.. It misses out on some creature comforts that you’d expect from an older MVNO such as VoLTE and Wi-Fi calling which some will find deal breakers, but it more than makes up for it with its unique plans and perks.
