TL;DR
  • After a launch in China a few months ago, vivo has launched its X Fold 6 globally.
  • The phone packs a 6,900mAh battery globally, along with fast wired and wireless charging.
  • The phone also features a display significantly brighter than the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Fold 8 Ultra.

Even though Samsung was the first to introduce a book-style foldable, scores of rivals have since joined the clique. Another rival to the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is now making its global debut, with a major edge over Samsung in terms of its cameras.

After launching its latest book-style foldable in China in June, vivo is bringing the X Fold 6 to global markets. The foldable is now listed for sale across various European markets, including Austria, Germany, Hungary, and Italy.

The global version of the vivo X Fold 6 appears to carry the same specifications and design as the Chinese counterpart, but runs a newer version of vivo’s Origin OS. The phone’s skin, Origin OS 7, is based on Android 17 and is claimed to deliver quicker app launches, faster animations, and a smoother multitasking experience, with up to four apps running in a multiwindow setup at once.

The other highlight of this foldable is its cameras, just like the previous generations of vivo’s X Fold devices. The Fold 6’s biggest camera upgrade comes with the new 200MP primary camera, alongside the 50MP ultrawide-angle and the 50MP telephoto cameras. As with other vivo X series phones, the Fold 6 also features Zeiss’s color science and a host of filters for more dramatic effects. But quite unlike any other foldable on the market today, the Fold 6 supports vivo’s second-gen 200mm telephoto extender lens, expanding optical zoom by a factor of 2.35x.

Inside, the phone is powered by a Dimensity 9500 Super Edition, which is a custom version of the standard Dimensity 9500. The Super Edition is built in partnership with vivo and is claimed to feature a custom design that ensures better thermal efficiency and better NPU performance compared to the standard version. This custom chip is paired with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. Globally, there’s just one variant listed for sale at the moment.

For its displays, the Fold 6 uses an 8.02-inch folding panel from Samsung, while the cover screen measures 6.51 inches. Both of these are LPTO AMOLEDs with a variable refresh rate of 1–120Hz. The screens are also claimed to offer a peak brightness of 5,000 nits, surpassing the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra’s displays by a long margin.

The Fold 6 also packs a 6,900mAh battery, a tad smaller than the Chinese variant. The foldable supports 80W fast wired charging as well as 40W fast wireless charging, and the brick is included in the box. Despite the hefty battery, the phone measures just 4.8mm when unfolded and weighs 228 grams.

As mentioned above, the vivo X Fold 6 gets a single 12GB+512GB storage variant for the global model. This is priced at €2,199 (~$2,480) in Germany, though the price likely excludes VAT.  The 200mm telephoto extender and a special back case to mount it cost another €299 (~$340), but vivo is throwing in a Watch GT 2 (and an Apple Watch lookalike) to sweeten the deal. Based on leaks, vivo also plans to expand the Fold 6 beyond Europe, with the India launch rumored for next week.
