The Motorola Moto Z went up for sale as a Verizon-exclusive in the U.S. back in July of this year, keeping subscribers of other carriers off the handset for three months. Well, that’s no longer the case, as Motorola and third-party retailers have started selling the unlocked version of the Moto Z for $700.

Pre-orders for the unlocked Moto Z kicked off on September 19. Only AT&T and T-Mobile users need apply, as the unlocked Moto Z is only compatible with GSM networks. That means Sprint users – and any MVNOs using Sprint or Verizon networks, — are left out cold.

To recall, the Moto Z sports a 5.5-inch Gorilla Glass 4 Quad HD AMOLED display, boasts a 13MP rear camera and 5MP front shooter, and packs a Snapdragon 820 processor, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of expandable storage under the hood. [related_videos align=”right” type=”custom” videos=”716982,697734″]

The Moto Z Force remains exclusive to Verizon and there’s no mention about when its unlocked version will arrive. That leaves AT&T and T-Mobile subscribers with a handset that’s powered by a frugal 2,600 mAh battery. The steep pricing may raise some eyebrows: the $700 handset doesn’t include any of the well-loved Moto Mods accessories.
