Spotify bug is preventing users from following and blocking each other

Spotify is in the middle of rolling out a new toggle that will save parents’ personal recommendations from getting contaminated by kids’ music. Coincidentally, it looks like a separate feature broke right after this toggle was announced. What’s worse is that it may take a while before this feature is fixed.

Spotify users are reporting that they are unable to follow and unfollow other accounts on the platform. As one user describes the situation, when they tap the follow button, the button state changes to “Following,” as it should. However, the follower count does not change and when the page is refreshed, the button reverts to “Follow.”

In addition to being unable to follow/unfollow other users, there appears to be a second problem. There are also reports that users have lost the ability to block and unblock other accounts. When attempting to block/unblock, users are getting an error message that reads “Something went wrong. Please try again later.”

A moderator on Spotify’s community forum has acknowledge the glitch and says the team is aware of the issue. The bug is currently under investigation. However, the moderator adds that they can’t provide “an immediate timeframe in which it is going to get addressed.” So while the problem is on the team’s radar, it doesn’t look like an immediate fix is in the cards.
