Spotify's new toggle can keep kids music out of your recommendations and Wrapped

After a successful pilot launch, Spotify’s Managed Accounts made their way to all US-based users earlier this summer, allowing parents to give their kids their own space on Spotify, all while maintaining control over their listening environment and habits. However, even when kids have access to their own space on Spotify, there are bound to be moments, like car rides, when you inevitably end up playing their music from your own account. Thankfully, Spotify has come up with a new way to keep that from interfering with your own recommendations.

Managed Accounts keep your kids’ listening history separate from your own, but doesn’t really help when you’re actively playing children’s music from your own account. This manages to influence the music Spotify recommends to you, with children’s music even creeping into your year-end Wrapped. Spotify knows that this can be an issue, and it’s now giving parents an easy way to prevent such music from bleeding into their own playlists.

Starting today, parents will be able to toggle a new setting that will let them exclude kids and family music from influencing their recommended music. The toggle is labeled “Include kids and family music in taste profile,” and turning it off prevents kids’ music from shaping your recommendations. This builds upon the platform’s existing functionality that lets you exclude playlists and individual tracks from your taste profile.

The feature is a proactive one — you don’t need to do anything once you toggle it on. You simply continue playing music like normal. If and when you do end up playing children’s music through your account, like on the drive to school, the stream will not influence your recommendations. “This includes, for example, the songs you play on repeat from your kids’ favorite animated movies, theme songs from family TV shows, nursery rhymes, and more,” wrote the music streaming giant. You’ll still be able to search for, listen to, and build playlists of kids and family music like normal.

In addition to being proactive, the new feature is retroactive too. Once enabled, kids and family music you’ve already streamed will retroactively be removed from the data shaping your recommendations and your 2026 Wrapped.

The new toggle is rolling out globally to free and Premium users. Here’s how to access it:

1. Navigate to Spotify’s Settings and privacy by tapping your profile picture.
2. Tap Content and display.
3. Toggle off Include kids and family music in taste profile.

It can take up to 48 hours for the change to take effect. Once kicked in, your kids will still be able to hijack the aux, but not your Spotify algorithm.
