Sony Xperia 1 V render 1
TL;DR
  • Leaked Sony Xperia 1 V renders show a familiar design.
  • Outed specs of the phone suggest a camera upgrade is on the cards.
  • The phone seems to retain a 3.5mm headphone jack and a physical fingerprint reader.

Sony is one of the few brands still keeping legacy smartphone features alive on its flagships, like the 3.5mm headphone port and microSD storage. It looks like the Sony Xperia 1 V will also inherit these features from its predecessor and get a few upgrades to go along.

High-quality renders of the Xperia 1 V leaked (via OnLeaks, GreenSmartphones) over the weekend, showing a largely unchanged design compared to the Xperia 1 IV. The phone apparently gets the same boxy design with a flat 6.5-inch display.

Sony’s making a small change at the back, with the flash now housed inside the triple camera island. Speaking of, Sony might finally move on from the 12MP wide-angle sensor and up it to a 48MP shooter, as per the leak. The other two sensors are expected to remain 12MP snappers. Another 12MP selfie clicker is expected on the front.

The Zeiss camera branding is missing from the renders. However, that could just be because of the early nature of the leak.

Elsewhere, the renders also showcase the 3.5mm headphone jack and a power button with an embedded fingerprint sensor. There’s a USB-C port at the bottom, next to a SIM tray.

Sony will likely equip the Xperia 1 V with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip. Rumors also suggest it could onboard 16GB of RAM, up from 12GB last year.

As for its launch date, the company hasn’t revealed anything officially. The leak suggests Sony could announce the Xperia 1 V by the end of this month, with availability slated for the summer.
