Thankfully, Sony is throwing in a freebie to help soften the blow of how long you'll wait to actually get the phone.

TL;DR
  • In the United States, pre-orders are open for the Sony Xperia 1 III.
  • Unfortunately, the phone won’t start shipping until August 19, 2021.
  • Sony is throwing in a free set of true wireless earbuds with pre-orders for a limited time.

If you’ve been patiently waiting to buy the latest Sony flagship smartphone, the wait is over. In the United States, you can now pre-order the Sony Xperia 1 III in either its Frosted Black or Frosted Purple colorways.

Unfortunately, you’ll only be able to buy the phone today. You won’t be able to actually use the phone until it starts shipping on August 19, 2021 — roughly 49 days from now. Ouch.

Sony likely understands how frustrating that is, so it’s throwing in a nifty freebie for pre-orders. If you buy today, you’ll be able to grab a free pair of Sony’s WF-1000XM3 true wireless earbuds. This is 2019’s model, but they are still a stellar set of ‘buds.

You can pre-order the Sony Xperia 1 III from a variety of retailers. We recommend B&H Photo for the simple reason that it costs $2 less than from other shops. Hey, $2 is $2! If you’d rather pay full price — which is a jaw-dropping $1299.99 — you can grab it directly from Sony. Interestingly, Best Buy has a listing for the phone at its full price, but you can’t actually buy it yet. It might be worth waiting if you’re a Best Buy fan.

As a final note, our friends across the pond in the United Kingdom will also be able to buy the phone on August 19 for £1,199 (~$1,652). However, Sony does not appear to be running pre-orders at the moment. They will still come with a free set of WF-1000XM3 earbuds, though.
