You told us: Most of you don't use your watch less when wearing long sleeves
Smartwatches fulfill a number of roles, ranging from health and fitness tracking to serving up notifications and music playback. And they’ve grown in popularity during the pandemic, which means there’s a good chance you or someone you know recently acquired one.
However, we wondered whether smartwatch owners used their devices less often when they wore long sleeves. We posed this question to our readers last week, and here are the results of that poll.
Do you use your smartwatch less when wearing long sleeves?
Of the 1,101 votes cast in this poll, 60.58% said they didn’t use their smartwatch less when wearing long sleeves. In other words, it seems most readers feel a long sleeve isn’t enough of a deterrent for regular watch use.

However, 28.79% of respondents said they did indeed use their smartwatch less when wearing clothing with long sleeves. At least one reader noted that they had more than one layer of long-sleeved clothing on in winter.
Finally, 10.63% of polled readers said they weren’t sure whether they used their smartwatch less often when wearing long sleeves. This is understandable, as I doubt it’s something many people thought about before.
- Tiuri Elvander: Yes, in general and also especially during sports. A quick glance to see my heart rate is possible in the summer but not in the winter (when I’m wearing long sleeves and a wind stopper or something similar).
- Houston: I prefer long-sleeve shirts with two buttons at the wrist. This way, I can have it wide on the left so that wearing a smartwatch is no problem.
- Joe Black: Yes, I do use it less often. I check time on my smartwatch quite regularly to get better sense of time and plan my time accordingly. In general, I do not watch my heart rate, control music, use calendar etc. on my watch I use my phone and smartwatch app for that. Time, alarms, sleep tracking, occasional sports tracking and notifications now and then. My smartwatch has a peaceful life :-D
- : I remove my Fenix to shower, during which time it gets charged for 10 minutes. In the winter it goes on top of my jacket sleeve. I do without hr info, but not my watch.
