Satellite connectivity seems to be the next big thing in the smartphone space. It’s rumored that the new iPhone 14 models will be capable of providing emergency communications via satellite connectivity. T-Mobile also recently announced that it’s working with SpaceX to launch its satellite-based services that’ll initially be limited to texting and provide voice and data coverage in the future. Meanwhile, Google is working to bring satellite connectivity support with Android 14.
How will satellite connections affect you? The idea is to provide smartphone connectivity in remote areas that don’t have proper network infrastructure or aren’t covered by any cellular provider. Satellite networks could also be helpful in situations where cellphone towers are destroyed or compromised due to a natural disaster.
