Your Pixel Watch can now do more without touching the screen

Google’s September Pixel Drop is rolling out, and Pixel Watch owners are getting a handy upgrade that should make the smartwatch easier to use when you’ve only got one hand free.

This is separate from the September 2026 Drop Update from earlier this month, which focused on features across Google’s apps. This release is for supported Pixel hardware, including phones, tablets, and smartwatches.

The most interesting change is coming to the Pixel Watch 3 and newer models. Google is expanding one-handed gestures so you can now open the notification tray and move through your notifications with a pinch.

It’s a small addition, but one that could come in handy often. For instance, you could be checking a message while carrying groceries, holding a coffee, or standing on a packed train. Instead of reaching across to swipe the watch display, you can use the hand that’s already wearing it.

Google is also tweaking Raise to Talk on the Pixel Watch 4 and newer models, along with the gesture-recognition system. The company hasn’t explained exactly what’s changing under the hood, though, so we’ll have to wait and see whether these tweaks make gestures noticeably more reliable in everyday use.

The rollout begins today (September 15) and covers Pixel devices that are still within Google’s software support window. Since Android 17 QPR1 has spent some time in beta, the update may also include smaller fixes and refinements once it lands on devices.
