TL;DR
  • Samsung has announced the W22 in China.
  • Based on the Galaxy Z Fold 3, the foldable phone features a few aesthetic differences but a largely similar specs sheet.
  • Pricing starts at a whopping ~$2,640.

Samsung has launched a new flagship smartphone in China. Based on the Galaxy Z Fold 3, the Samsung W22 features a few design tweaks, a bit more under the hood, and a steeper price.

From a distance, the W22’s specs sheet looks almost identical to the Galaxy Z Fold 3. This includes a folding 7.6-inch AMOLED screen, the 6.2-inch external display, the Snapdragon 888 SoC beneath both, and the triple 12MP camera array at the rear.

However, there are a few unique touches. Aesthetically, buyers get a few gold accents chiefly along the spine of the foldable phone. The included S Pen also features a tasteful gold band around its upper section. A set of custom watch-inspired UI elements also feature. Finally, there is one notable hardware buff. Samsung is giving the W22 4GB more RAM over its western counterpart. This means the phone tops out at 16GB of RAM with 512GB of internal storage alongside it, too.

Samsung W22: Price and availability

Of course, if you’re in China, love gold, and are excited by the prospect of more RAM in the foldable phone, the foldable is a compelling device. However, it’s also pretty pricey. You’ll need 16,999 yuan (~$2,640) to purchase the Samsung W22, making it considerably costlier than the $1,899 Galaxy Z Fold 3 available internationally.
