Samsung Gear S3 update helps fix battery drain

Samsung has begun rolling out an update to specifically fix battery drain on Gear S3 devices.

The Samsung Gear S3, the company’s flagship smartwatch, has received a small, but important update. Coming in at only 21 megabytes, it’s purported to solve battery issues, with the only change mentioned being an improvement in “battery usage time.” If you’ve been experiencing battery drain issues on your Gear S3, this update should help fix that.

The update is currently rolling out in Canada, but Samsung has confirmed to 9to5Google that they are rolling out the patch for the rest of the Gear S3 models globally, including the Frontier and Classic variants.

The battery drain issue is supposedly a result of the Tizen OS 3.0 update which rolled out a few weeks ago, according to the folks at GSMArena. While having such bugs isn’t good for the user experience, at least Samsung is acknowledging the issue. To see if the update is available for you, check the Gear app on your phone.
