The Samsung Gear S2 has received the big update rumored last week, adding the ability to use your own photos as watch face backgrounds as well as new voice commands, social network sharing, an improved sleep tracker and a new contacts app and widget. It’s a 60-odd MB update and shifts the Gear S2 Classic to build number R732XXU2DPFB and the regular Gear S2 to R730XXU2DPFB.
The My Photo watch face allows you to add up to 10 of your own images, which the watch face cycles through each time you wake the device. You can now install new apps directly from the wearable without needing to pick up your phone. It will also recommend new apps and watch faces to you.
Fitness tracking on the Gear S2 is also improved, with a new sleep tracker feature added. You’re even share your fitness stats to social networks direct from the Gear S2. There’s a newly designed weather app with flatter look, UV index and sunrise/sunset times.
The update adds the ability to start a timer or launch Messages using S Voice and there’s a new Contacts app and widget. Finally, you’ll get a new notifications settings menu when you have no visible notifications. The update is rolling out now but you’ll need to make sure you have the latest version of the Gear app to get it.
Who do you think does a better wearable interface? Samsung or Google?
