Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra camera mystery deepens as leakers clash over new render

We’ve already seen CAD renders of the Galaxy S27 Ultra, and while these have revealed the broad direction for the design of the plexus, the final details, especially inside the camera island, remained unclear until now.

Following an influx of early case leaks that sparked questions about Samsung’s next flagship camera setup, reputable leaker Steve ‘OnLeaks’ Hemmerstoffer has shared on X what they claim is the most “up to date and accurate” rear camera configuration for the upcoming Galaxy S27 Ultra.

According to the new render, the top of the pill houses a telephoto lens, immediately followed by a microphone cutout, auxiliary sensors (addressing concerns over laser autofocus), and an LED flash at the very bottom. Notably, OnLeaks points out that third-party protective case makers appear to have completely missed the rear microphone cutout in their early molds.

The clarification arrives on the heels of observations by leaker Ice Universe on X, who analyzed four different third-party case iterations circulating across China’s supply chains. While Ice Universe noted that the latest, most precise cases “correctly” pinpointed the telephoto lens at the top of the oval enclosure with an opening below it, the lack of visible cutouts raised questions over whether Samsung had quietly dropped the Laser AutoFocus (AF) sensor. OnLeaks’ render puts those layout questions to bed: the sensors and microphone are integrated into the secondary oval module rather than discarded.

However, Ice Universe responded to the new render on X, claiming they had received “updated information from an authoritative source,” indicating that the “correct” design places the camera at the bottom, with the flash positioned above it.

CAD renders often miss finer details, especially for components that sit flush with the body, so it’s easy to see why accessory makers (who often rely on leaks, too) could have overlooked the positions on cases with fine cutouts or just opted to make cases with broad cutouts. It also explains why there’s disagreement about the positions of the flash and the third camera module, since a CAD render would merely show them as openings rather than specific components.

As a general rule of thumb, CAD renders are traditionally reliable indicators of overall chassis dimensions and button placements, but they shouldn’t be treated as gospel for finer hardware details or fit and finish. By extension, you also shouldn’t put too much faith in cases that leak this early in the product cycle. We’ll get a better idea of how the Galaxy S27 series will be shaping up (beyond these renders) as we inch closer to its launch, presumably early next year.
