TL;DR
  • Some Galaxy S24 users are reportedly facing a significant dip in battery life after the recent One UI 9 update.
  • Multiple Galaxy S25 owners are also reporting similar problems after Samsung’s Android 17-based update.
  • Samsung recently started rolling out the One UI 9 update to the Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S24 series, introducing features like Call Brief and My FanCam.

After a brief wait, Samsung began rolling out the One UI 9 update to the Galaxy S25 series, followed shortly by the Galaxy S24 lineup. While the update adds features like Call Brief and My FanCam, it may also be hurting battery life.

A report from a Galaxy S24 Ultra owner on X shows battery life declining 95% with only 3 hours and 15 minutes of screen-on time (via SammyFans). This is a steep drop, even with heavy social media use and being on mobile data the entire time. Samsung later contacted this user to schedule a service appointment at a nearby store.

The issue doesn’t appear limited to just the Galaxy S24 series, as a Galaxy S25 Plus user reports facing a similar problem in a Samsung community forum post (via 9to5Google). A quick read of the comments suggests this may not be limited to a select few Galaxy device owners.

We’re also seeing a recent complaint from a Galaxy S24 Ultra user on Reddit and another user facing significant idle battery drain on a Galaxy S24. A slightly older post from a Galaxy S25 owner also mentions similar issues, and the comments suggest they’re not alone.

Evidently, several users have reported a big hit to battery life after the One UI 9 update. However, it’s still difficult to tell whether this is due to a glitch that’s in need of Samsung cooking up a fix. In any case, we have written to the company for clarification on these mounting online complaints and will share any news we hear back.

If you’ve seen software updates over the years, you know issues like this aren’t rare, particularly in the first few weeks of rollout. However, if more customers notice a significant difference in battery performance before and after the One UI 9 update, Samsung may find it hard to ignore.

For now, if you’re facing battery trouble since the update, try common steps like restarting your phone or doing a factory reset (after backing up your data).
