Samsung Galaxy phones can't tell if they're connected to Bluetooth or not
Oct 14, 2026 — 1:14 PM ET

- Samsung Galaxy phone users are experiencing a strange bug affecting the volume panel.
- When playing audio through the phone’s speakers, a Bluetooth icon appears at the bottom of the slider.
- Instead of an earbud icon, a speaker icon reportedly appears when earbuds are connected.
You may not always notice it, but the volume slider on your Galaxy phone conveys more information than just the volume level. Whether you’re listening to music through your earbuds or blasting it through your Bluetooth speakers, there will be a little symbol at the bottom of the panel that lets you know what your phone is connected to. However, a new bug is causing issues with this indicator.
Samsung Galaxy phone users (1, 2, 3) are experiencing a strange glitch affecting the volume panel. When playing audio through the handset’s speakers, a Bluetooth icon appears at the bottom of the slider. That should not be happening, as it suggests the phone is connected to a Bluetooth device even though it is disconnected. Users also report seeing a speaker icon instead of an earbud icon when their earbuds are connected.
Users have also recently reported a volume level discrepancy problem between the volume panel and Quick Settings. A user shared screenshots of the slider showing the level at 80, meanwhile Quick Settings showed the level at 81. While Samsung has confirmed the volume discrepancy bug, it has yet to confirm this icon issue.
It’s unclear what is causing the mix-up between the symbols. The Good Lock support team suggests checking if you’re using Sound Assistant. If you are, they recommend updating to the latest version (v9.0.00.11). The team also recommends sending in your error logs if the issue persists so the problem can be investigated.
