  • A Korean outlet reports that Samsung plans to release a Galaxy Note next year after all.
  • This comes after Samsung’s mobile chief said it would bring Note features to other phones.
  • This is the latest conflicting report regarding the future of the long-running Note family.

Samsung’s Galaxy Note plans for 2021 have been subject to a steady stream of rumors and leaks, with conflicting claims that the Korean manufacturer could kill off the series next year in favor of its foldables.

Now, Korea’s Yonhap News reports that Samsung is still steaming ahead with a Galaxy Note launch in 2021, citing a company official. “We are preparing to release the Galaxy Note series next year,” the official was quoted as saying.

The news also comes a short while after Samsung mobile chief TM Roh said the company was bringing some of the Galaxy Note line’s “most well-loved features” to other devices in its portfolio.

A Samsung official told Yonhap however that Roh’s disclosure isn’t proof of the phablet line’s imminent demise though. “This explanation does not mean the discontinuation of the Note category,” the representative noted (heh).

This is just the latest in a line of occasionally conflicting reports relating to the future of the Galaxy Note series. Earlier this month, Reuters reported that Samsung has no plans for a new Galaxy Note series in 2021, citing three sources familiar with the matter. The newswire alleged that resources that would’ve been devoted to next year’s Galaxy Note will be devoted to the foldable category instead.

However, Korea’s ET News reported late last month that there was likely to be one last Galaxy Note phone before Samsung merges the Note and foldable lines.

In other words, we’re still not completely sure about the immediate future of the Galaxy Note line. But with other Samsung phones confirmed to be getting Galaxy Note features, it does look like the Note series could be losing its selling points very soon.
