Update, July 6, 2020 (10:36 AM ET): Previously, we heard multiple rumors that the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 series could launch on August 5, as described in the original article below. However, we now have another source that suggests the same rumored info as well as a possible date that the devices could actually be available in stores.
According to ET News (here’s a translated version), the Galaxy Note 20 series could land in stores in Samsung’s native South Korea on August 21. That’s a Friday, which is when Samsung usually puts its flagship phones in stores, so it is highly likely this is the real date.
Samsung also usually launches its flagships on the same day globally, so it’s also likely this August 21 date will apply to the US, the UK, Europe, etc.
As of now, it’s a good bet that we’ll see the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 series launch on August 5 and then see those devices in stores on August 21. It’s not set in stone yet, but we’d feel pretty confident about putting that in the calendar. As soon as we have direct confirmation from Samsung, we will let you know!
Original article, June 5, 2020 (02:00 PM ET): Although we are still waiting patiently for the launch of the Google Pixel 4a, the next big smartphone release we are expecting is the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 series. Samsung usually releases the Note line in August each year at an event called Galaxy Unpacked.
Samsung Galaxy Note 20 release date and info
Today, we heard from two different leakers (via Droid-Life) who both suggest the 2020 iteration of Galaxy Unpacked could happen on August 5. That would mean we would see the Galaxy Note 20 series officially land on that date.
For obvious reasons, the event will likely be online-only. This would be a big shift for Samsung which usually holds Unpacked events in huge event spaces reserved for concerts and sporting events.
Now, keep in mind that this is not official information. It’s possible that Galaxy Unpacked will be on a completely different date. However, an August 5 launch for the Note 20 lineup makes perfect sense to us.
Allegedly, Samsung could also launch a lot of other products during the event, the most notable of which being the Samsung Galaxy Fold 2. There could also be a new Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 tablet as well as a new Samsung Galaxy Watch 2. However, the Note 20 phones will undoubtedly be the stars of the show and occupy the most stage time.
For now, pencil in a release date of August 5. It could change, but that’s what erasers are for.
