TL;DR
  • Apparent Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Plus camera specs have emerged online.
  • We could be looking at a 108MP main camera, 13MP periscope lens, and 12MP ultra-wide camera.
  • The Note 20 Plus could actually turn out to be the Note 20 Ultra.

Samsung delivered some pretty impressive camera technology on the Galaxy S20 Ultra earlier this year, featuring a 108MP main camera, a periscope zoom camera, and 8K recording.

Now, prolific tipster Ice Universe has shared apparent Galaxy Note 20 Plus camera specs, and it looks like Samsung could be picking up where the S20 Ultra left off.

The leaker alleges that the Galaxy Note 20 Plus will have the same Isocell Bright HM1 108MP main camera as the top-end S20 model. This particular sensor is capable of nona-binning, combining data from nine adjacent pixels into one. This particular pixel-binning solution means the sensor spits out 12MP shots from its 108MP camera.

Ice Universe also claims that the upcoming Galaxy Note 20 model will pack a 12MP “2L3” ultra-wide camera (referring to the firm’s Isocell Fast 2L3 sensor) and a 13MP “3M5” periscope camera (referring to Samsung’s S5K3M5 camera sensor). The latter would be a big drop in resolution over the S20 Ultra’s 48MP periscope camera. If true, this suggests the firm may have decided better low-light quality was more important than more megapixels.

The leaker adds that the Note 20 Plus will pack a laser focus sensor instead of a 3D ToF camera, as well as 50x zoom instead of 100x zoom seen on the S20 Ultra. We’d be happy to see Samsung dial back on the low-quality 100x digital zoom feature, and focus on improving hybrid zoom instead.

Ice Universe has a good record for leaks, but they’re not perfect. So we’ll need to wait for more leaks to corroborate these Galaxy Note 20 Plus camera specs or for the official launch event.

This new leak also comes a day after Samsung’s Bluetooth SIG filing for a Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. It’s possible Samsung will rebrand the Galaxy Note 20 Plus to become a Note 20 Ultra instead, with the model number in the filing apparently tied to the Note 20 Plus as well. It’s also possible but perhaps less likely that the firm actually has a third Note 20 variant in the works.
