TL;DR
  • Samsung has stealthily launched the Galaxy A73.
  • One major upgrade is the switch to a 108MP main camera.
  • Samsung has unfortunately swapped out the A72’s 3X telephoto camera for a depth sensor.

The Samsung Galaxy A53 was the star of the show at the company’s launch event yesterday (appearing alongside the A33), but it turns out that Samsung also quietly launched the Galaxy A73 too.

The Galaxy A73 obviously picks up where the Galaxy A72 left off, albeit being a 5G model. Samsung unsurprisingly hasn’t revealed the name of the processor being used here though, but we’re guessing it’s the Exynos 1280 that’s inside the Galaxy A53.

Core specs otherwise include a 6.7-inch FHD+ 120Hz OLED panel, 6GB to 8GB of RAM, 128GB to 256GB of expandable storage, and a 5,000mAh battery with 25W charging. Unfortunately, you’ll have to buy a separate charger as Samsung isn’t including one in the box at all.

We also see notable changes on the back, as the Galaxy A73 ditches its predecessor’s 64MP primary camera in favor of a 108MP camera (with OIS). Unfortunately, Samsung has also decided to ditch the A72’s 8MP 3X telephoto lens in favor of a 5MP depth sensor. A 12MP ultrawide camera and 5MP macro sensor round out the quad rear camera setup. Switch to the front and a 32MP camera is available in a center-aligned punch-hole cutout.

Other features worth knowing include an IP67 rating, an in-display fingerprint sensor, One UI 4.1 atop Android 12, Bluetooth 5, and Wi-Fi 6.

There’s no word on pricing just yet, while Samsung has only said the Galaxy A73 will be available from April 22 in “select” markets. Either way, we’re guessing this will definitely be a $500+ smartphone given that the Galaxy A53 starts at $450.
